How do you think it would do if it was sent out?

Of all the foolish claims of mercs being FSB this is the only one in a long time that I believe actually shows Fully Split Bands. This looks to be a fantastic coin. I'm no fan of slabs but if you plan to sell it get it slabbed. Being slabbed will really affect the value.

Glad to hear it, Celticsoul. The reason I purchased the coin in the first place was because it was the only one I could locate that both advertised full bands and had the photo quality to back it up. Not sure if I will send it away yet, or sell it, maybe someday if I need to.

High grade Mercs are really tough to grade because of their size.. Marks which would be inconsequential on a Morgan cost a grade on a Merc, and to effectively grade them from images the coin's surfaces have to be illuminated over every square millimeter. This issue needs to be a bare minimum of 67FB to justify a slab.

SsuperDdave, would it help if I posted some zoomed in, cropped photos split up into sections for proper hit mark identification? Or would it just be too difficult to grade from an image alone?

That might help. I'm seeing skritches on cheek and neck which may not be as prominent as they look. Hopefully other Merc folks will weigh in as well.

MS 65 FSB
1 of the reasons I wanted to join here was to put my grade opinion in :) seems fun.
Update- Read up on FSB dimes, since I haven't heard of them, and this definitely looks like it

Here are close up photos of the cheek and neck. Sorry for the size, I tried to enhance it, but the photos were not clear and practically useless. Unfortunately, this is the best I could muster up. Hopefully they help, at least somewhat.

Here's a comparison of a 41-D that is, I've been told, certainly a good candidate to be sent out. Looks a little nicer than my 41-D:

To be precise, that oih82w8's 41-D is in a PCGS holder. Luster weighs very heavily in TPG grading (which sometimes tends to penalize early die state coins), and yours appears to have luster in spades. Probably would get a MS66FB based on that, since the handful marks on the coin are mostly on the small side.

You're right, we are still waiting to hear what the grade is on that one. I would guess MS67FB for oih82w8's as a minimum.
