From a recent Coin World article the remaining stock is from cancelled orders, CC issues and returns. The original minting was 110k and the remainder is "on the way". So I agree that the backordered coins will eventually be shipped but the way the Mint worded the statement it did not sound like they would come from that 3800 or so unsold.. They also said that coins that were sent back because of damage would NOT be resold...for whatever THAT'S worth

Well, after speaking to three dealers, the consensus was to return mine and try for a replacement. It can't be worse than the one I got, right?

Please use them in the future. Posts are very difficult to read without them.***Considering they are "sold out", and you can sell any on ebay for a profit.. I would not return ANYTHING. No guarantees you get a replacement.

So the 2014 JFK only has a 75k mintage but it didn't sell out near as fast as these. Why? Is it just because of the price difference? I'd have to think JFK is pretty popular.

I certainly like the 2014 JFK coin more. If I were going to buy gold, that would have been it.

Quote: Is it just because of the price difference $1200+ vs. $200 is significant

I received mine yesterday and aside from some milkiness on the reverse, there is a huge gouge above the bottom rim on the reverse. I'm really not impressed....

We went ahead with a graded one, but I don't like it because it turns out this one has the giant fins. Actually, this one has a complete fin all the way around on both sides. I preferred one that is perfect. So, I have a few questions, now. 1.) Seeing that sellers are now charging premiums for the finned coins, does anyone here think that will stick? Or is it more likely to hurt the value? 2.) What is the difference between "First Day" and "First Strike?" I see First Day is commanding a premium, and mine is First Strike. 3.) The field between Mercury's neck and the mintmark seems to have a mark, my husband suspects it is a die gouge, but I disagree. How could PCGS assign a grade of SP70 if that mark is present?

Quote: 2.) What is the difference between "First Day" and "First Strike?" I see First Day is commanding a premium, and mine is First Strike. First Day was in theory shipped on the release day while First Strike was shipped within the first 30 days. In reality, the designations don't tell you anything about the quality of the strikes nor the quality of the coins in general. Would you rather have a weakly struck coin that happened to be shipped on the first day or a strongly struck coin that happened to be the last one sold? Furthermore, these coins all sold out on the first day. Reality is that the very last coin struck could be shipped on the first day. Quote: 3.) Die gouge or not, it's certainly an imperfection that would prevent me from buying the coin. Hopefully it's not noticeable under magnification. Buy the coin and not the slab.

I have been following this post with great interest hoping to accept this coin. But I have to speak out.....call me a hater....but the overall quality of this piece is well below what the coin deserves. The Mint is spitting out this low quality product and it's sad. I have seen plenty of 70 year old original samples that SMOKE these gold ones. Dear U.S. Mint, if your reading this, please improve the quality of future copies of past coins. Thank you
