For a living I do construction. We recently had a demo job at a old pharmacy.Being the collector that I am I snagged every coin I could find. This one happened to be by one of the old cash registers. They had it taped on a pole and when I dropped it in acetone to better make out the date, etc the word FAKE was on the reverse of it.

It is defiantly not the same as a normal quarter. Weighs one gram less. If it isn't fake then I'm thinking it might be missing a layer or something...

I can kind of make out the date to be 1990. It is a little crusty though so please bare with.

That looks genuine, but acid damaged.

Some acids can will dissolve the nickel and leave the copper. This is probably what happened.

I heard that being in a water fountain for a long period of time could do this to a quarter. The lower or higher pH could do this. Snowman
