I need help with a detector for my 9yo grandson. Recommendations would be appreciated. He is kind of a small frame kid with a lot of energy. Thanks in advance.

Most here would recommend an ACE 250 or 350.

Dont really have a price ceiling just looking to fix my grandson up. I have heard those two units talked about on here from a couple. Didnt know if they might be to heavy for him. Will have to give them a hard look. Thanks.

why not take him to a metal detector store and let him try a few models? Or take him to a pawn shop and have him check shaft length, weight, coil weight and all that.

The Ace 250s are a good starting point though.

I use an ACE-250 (since 2012) and it's a nice machine to use for basic coin hunting. I've found it accurate down to about eight inches. It's each to use.

One trip out with me and my 9 year old Grandson was hooked. I knew his Dad would probably use it a little too. I didn't want to spend a fortune but I wanted to get them a good enough unit that they could have success with it. I bought him the Ace 250, it's no toy, a very nice unit, light enough for a small child but can do some real work. I think the bottom line is no matter what you get he will be thrilled.

Well my wife surprised both of us on our birthday. She got us both bounty hunter models we will give them a try. The one I got is comparable to the 250 ace. I dont know we will see.

That sounds great! I use a Bounty Hunter and love it. It's the Platinum Pro model. Have you picked up a pinpointer yet? Can save you lots of aggravation. Keep us posted on your finds.
