Has anybody else on the CCF got this?
Norman-M-Davis---The-Complete-Book-Of-US-Coin-Collecting
I bought this for 50 cents at a garage sale while I was staying with some friends of my Mom's in Fort Worth, Texas about 10 years ago. It was published in 1976 by Macmillan and the Library of Congress Catalog Number is 70-117963. It very much stimulated my interest in US coins, which up to then had been a minor part of my collection. The book of course is now rather dated: obviously there is no reference to coins issued post-1976, no numeric grading, and prices quoted are very out-of-date: for example, it says that double-eagles can be bought for $260 to $275 in VF! However, it's a great read, with personal anecdotes (such as an account of getting a 1916-D dime in change on the school bus!), lots of historical information (including examples of what each coin would have bought at the time of issue), and a whimsical interview with Miss Liberty when she steps off a Gobrecht dollar and talks to the author! I often re-read a chapter in bed before turning the light out.

I don't have this but it seems like it might be an interesting read.

Great find. I really enjoy old books. Great snapshots of history.
