As for monthly releases, you right MoneyPenney, but for some special release, it different (more fast) schedule. The MC (with / without Rep) might have only 1 day in advance before reveal. If I recall correctly, I heard 21-st April as release. but might be I wrong. Anyway, nothing released yet. Let's see till afternoon....if not - the "action" for today is postponed.

I am surprised at the image quality on the $100 gold coin. The colour graphic appears very pixelated and, to my eyes, unattractive. Maybe it looks better in hand, considering the relatively small size of the coin?
I had expected better, but then I haven't closely examined the Superman gold coins from the past two years. Is the colour printing on the Superman coins any better?
I'm glad I wasn't interested in this one.

It's also interesting to see that the coin packed in the ACME crate does not include the two characters from the cartoons that used ACME crates as a running theme. No Wylie E Coyote and no Roadrunner. How'd that happen?!

That what I always said - plain print on top of the coin surface does not come close to the coin minting art. Pixelized - even worst. Quote: Is the colour printing on the Superman coins any better? They looks ok, on the 2014 the colour is smooth. Added: The Gold coin is still available..... Now you understand, what that person tried to say on RFD, the "Coins.4.Fun" responsible for the fact that coin not snatched, grabbed, taken, sold out away immediately

Pixel engraving not my preference- I think the all encompassing 1/2 oz set with nice box is most appealing - I'm told the 2 oz silver not yet showing for MC members?

Interesting tangents to this thread, and I won't hesitate to jump onto one... in my opinion, RFD represents the bottom feeders of the hobby (e.g., how many "flippers" there actually claim their profits as taxable income?) I noticed this recent comment on RFD (by someone who is also a CCF member): Quote: Man is there a lot of brain dead people over at CCF what a waste of time reading over there. Considering the nature of RFD (flipping and finance), that statement is ironic, and almost funny, considering that for CCF, numismatics (those of you on RFD can look up that word) is what drives this place.

I have to agree to an extent. Some of the poster on RFD have no interest in collecting coins. They might as well be (and probably are) reselling iPhone or Beanie Babies or whatever they can.
Some of those posters do look down on CCF and yes call us 'brain dead' etc. However, you don't have to leave this community to get that same sentiment from some of the 'collectors' of circulation coins. Many of them also think modern NCLT collectors are somehow 2nd class and likely would use the same descriptors as are used on RFD if not for forum rules here. Instead, they hide behind expressing themselves fully by using terms like 'granny bait' and 'junk'.
I've even seen posts here that say you'd have to be insane to buy NCLT. I'm not really sure how different that is than calling buyers 'brain dead'.

Quote: I've even seen posts here that say you'd have to be insane to buy NCLT. To someone who has a clear picture of the utter dependence of NCLT on the vagaries of people with more money than cognizance of numismatics as a poor investment vehicle, it is kinda insane. Not all NCLT specialists are altruistic "collectors" - it's the worst subspecialty for proportion of folks who are only in it for the money - and anyone with a clear picture understands those folks are sitting on a two-legged stool. I'd have to agree that "insane" is a bit too strong a verbiage, but I don't believe that it's an inaccurate factual representation of their situation.

All in context... NCLT can be beautiful and fun to collect... but you would have to be crazy to buy it as an investment. The look on some peoples faces at coin shows, when I tell them what their coins are worth - when they bring in mint product they had bought years ago, is sad.
I do own NCLT, but I only buy stuff that really speaks to me, purely for enjoyment. The last item I bought, was the 2015 silver Vancouver Canucks coin... Go Canucks!!

With all due respect, "insane" should never be used to describe folks who choose to collect a particular item. It is a very serious word that has significant meaning within the mental health community. It is not a term to be thrown around casually, and it's a bit disappointing to see it used here in such a way.
I would choose words such as "uninformed," "mis-informed," "misguided" etc. when referring to folks who are convinced that modern NCLT is an ideal investment opportunity. Some issues will increase in value over time, but most will not. This is a fact backed up by a preponderance of evidence.
With that said, pure "investment" in these such pieces does not make someone insane, just not the wisest of investors.

The RCM has changed the image on their web site for the $100 gold coin it's no longer pixelated. Wonder why? Was the pixelated view more accurate but hindering sales? Or maybe it was just an early "draft" image and not what actually appears on the coin. We'll have to wait and see.
