I just was called by my Rep, he asked me if I wanted to buy the gold coin, and I was able to buy 2 if I wanted. He said they had almost presold all 2000 units, and will most likely be sold out by the time it actually gets released tonight/tomorrow morning.
So I put 2 on hold and I will wait to see the design tomorrow morning.

I don't see how gold could flop when mintage will be low and likely limited two per customer making it virtually unattainable for the hard core flippers... Most will land in collectors hands and the Looney Tunes were and still extremely popular... If the design on the gold is bugs...as rumour has it...that will make to gold even more desirable -

Are you sure the design to be released tomorrow or will it be like initial superman coins with question marks -coin details without actual designs shown is the rumour I'm hearing? Can anybody shed more specifics?

when he called (minutes ago), I asked about this, he assured me that around midnight my time (PST) I should have the email, and will be able to see the design.

Most people that have reps are selling not buying for themselves. So if all the gold are sold out to dealers/master club members with reps, Very few if any will be available to Master club members who don't have reps, and none available to the general public. So right from the start the price will be inflated , not by actual collectors but by sellers. I think some people classify a "flop" as not being able to make a few hundred dollars profit or more before or on release day. So once the hype dies down and if the coins only happen to be selling near issue at some point its looked at as a "flop" or "no profit to be made" This gold coin most likely will be like the second Superman gold coin at some point which is now selling near issue.

Significant difference - for the Superman it was the second release, while Looney Toones - fresh theme for RCM. From other hand - is this topic popular enough to make people want the expensive coins?

2014 Superman Gold Coin were sold on ebay around CAD$1,000 ( USD$810+ ) Which is CAD$250 more than RCM's issue price CAD$750. Not to mention 2013 Superman Gold Coin ( ebay sold prices were CAD$1500+ )

Quote:Which is CAD$250 more than RCM's issue price CAD$750. This is exactly described as "not hit" Basically, when people on the fence about the coin potential, they mostly worry about resell value, immediate or in the future. So, for re-seller is there point to buy the CAD 750+Tax coin (will be 850) and then re-sell it for CAD 1000 on ebay (less than 900 after fees)? For collector, who buys the coin, always thinking about its popularity - doesn't look like for long will hold it's value. But again, it is just comparison with 2014 S-n, the Looney Toons coins might follow it's own path.

Just like the Gold Donald duck coin you cannot sell it for issue anywhere but the Mickey did really well for a while this will happen with these to. How Naive to think flippers cannot get as many of these as they want. I won't waste a cent on any of them

The Gold Donald Duck coin had a mintage of 1000 and the market could not absorb it. Will it be the same for this coin? The first Gold Disney Coin did fairly well since it was the first coin in the series but the big difference between the Steamboat Willie and this Looney Tune gold coin is in the mintage: 1000 vs 2000 for the Looney Tune coin.
More importantly, are there enough dedicated Looney Tune collectors willing to drop $1000 for a coin? As it turn out for the Disney coins, no, because it appears Disney fans are more willing to spend $1000 going to Disneyland.

In regards to popularity...between Disney and Looney...very difficult to measure. Disney and their famous characters continue to be seen in mainstream media...however, there may be more of a loyal grown up (kid at heart) cult following for the less sterilized Looney Tunes...with their pre-political correctness themes... Kids who grew up watching the Tunes and Disney have kids who likely only know Disney characters(and many other animated characters other than the Tunes...). Today's coin collectors and serious comic/cartoon collectors will certainly have interest in this series.

Perth's Disney Gold series was low mintage...yet not terribly popular... Perhaps the design had a lot to do with that... Ultimately, the design of the Tunes series will be a big factor...as it should.
