I think some one was playing with a tool and a die( note the appearance of die scraping on edges of raised area). very strange. sorry, I should have known better  , forgive me spp-ottawa. *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***Feel free to call me Will.

I know, almost looks like someone drove a small chisel into the die... weird...

I don't know... One heck of a die gouge maybe? Certainly doesn't look like any lamination error I have ever seen.

I think it's actually silver solder. I have a Ned Indies 1/4G with a big blob of solder on it (5x2mm and taller than the relief of the coin) and I can imagine it looking like that when it gets worn down.

Interesting find, maybe an air bubble / blister that has worn down ? (  poke it with a stick) |
