Jaobler....congrats on the '87-P. We've never found a 1987 from any mint. We've found a 70-D, many 40% and $34 face worth of Frankins, but never a 1987. I actually gave up on those and broke down and bought the '87 Mint Set. It's so kool to see a circulated 1987 like that!! I'm jealous!

Jaobler; That looks like a Magician's coin to me. Have you tried to get it apart?

2008 Mintage figures:
1.7 million Philly 1.7 million Denver
This is the lowest mintage for the entire series and may become key dates. It might also relax the price a bit on the 1970D key (2.15 million), which runs $15-20. The 70D is 40% silver, though, so it will always hold some premium, I think. The 2006 D is also only 2.0 million and all the 2002-2008 coins are 1.7-3.8 million range.
2008 P&D JFK bags are sold out at the US Mint, but P&D rolls are still available. I should also point out that the mintage figures are Jan-Nov 2008 and may change.

I have been a serious Morgan dollar Collector for ahwhile now and started roll searching about a month ago and am addicted. I have gone through $2800 worth of halves and have found the following: 40% 56 64's 18 Franks 2 Walkers 1 I also started a Dansco Album of halves that would grade at least MS60 and need only 18 more to complete the entire set through 08 I also seperated all of the 74D's, about 95 of them, but no DDO's yet. My bank is going to order me 2 boxes a week for now on. I returned my first batch of $1800 today at another branch and boy were they "unhappy" . I have an old account at this bank and they made me mad several years ago so they will be my dump. I enjoyed reading all of your posts and wish you all the best of luck in 09'

I will be doing a fed. box of halves tomorrow. The last box that I got had 13 40% in it. I will let everyone know what I get in it.

I have a question...
Once you go to a bank to roll search, how long before you return to that bank so that they have fresh rolls?
I understand that you can mark rolls you have already gone through to identify them yourself, but how often is the turnover for rolls at a bank?
And does it ever help to call ahead and see if they have rolls of halves? Will they usually look for you over the phone?

Always return your non-keepers to another bank. Halves do not turn over very quickly so they will remain there until someone else picks them up or they have enough to ship them out.
I always call as it saves a good deal of time driving around. Just tell them to hold them for you. Every bank that I have gone to was more then happy to get rid of them

What is the usual turnover time for pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters? If I were to go get some rolls tomorrow, when would be the best time to go back to that same bank for a new batch?

I think I just had my third worst group of halves today. $250 worth and the only things worth saving were one lonely 1968-D and a BU 1992-D ( which I needed for my Kennedy set). Maybe my luck's finally running out... :(

I agree- JFK halves have very low turnover at banks, so take them to another branch to return them OR spend them. I prefer to spend them for tips, gas, small purchases. Some branches keep them on site and some ship them out as customers bring them in. It is interesting that the same bank name, but different branches do different things.
In my experience, it takes at least a month for the same branch to get in more halves, and usually not that much (under $10), so I rotate among branches and keep track of which ones I go to and when. Also, I do call ahead sometimes. If they have less that $10, I don't bother to drive there. However, I can't tell you how many times I find at least 1 silver in an under $10 batch of halves. There's a lot of silver still out there/
Good luck and happy hunting!

Jaobler, like mfhorn says, try to get that coin apart, it looks like it could be a Magician's coin. Sometimes that takes a little doing. I have one with a Peso on the back. Cool find!
