Anyone that returns any of these sets should tuck a little note in the set somewhere, like inside the COA or under the dollar. Put some sort of contact info, and see if the set goes on to someone else... Just a thought.
I got my sets Saturday, and they are all beautiful. I thought for a moment that one of the RP dimes had a scratch on the cheek, but it turned out to be a loose fiber between the coin and the plastic. All of the plastic capsules were terribly scratched.

As far as qualifying for first strike/early realease goes:
Is it true you can send them in for grading even years later, as long as the box from the mint is still sealed?

Are you sure about that, there is usually a 30 days after they began issuing them for first Strike or Early Release. They might be able to go by a shipping date on the out box though if it has one. Kind of like the packing slips in the ASE green Monster boxes. (That's why you can find pre 2005 early release ASE's. On one forum a member got a set if some kind that had a note in it from another forum member that included a description of what the problem with the set was and why he was returning it. If you do it though you probably should tuck one under a capsule or something so they don't just pull it out and toss it.

So I finally opened up my five sets and I'm not sure if I should be dissappointed...
First of all two sets did not comes with a COA! Totally missing...
Second, tons of fuzz and scratches on all the capsules, makes it hard to examine the coin
One proof dime has a scratch on his chin
Some dimes have fuzz or a tiny speck of crap under the capsule, or stuck onto the coin
And the weirdest - all five have a little blob right on the torch bands. Looks like its either from the die, intentional or not, but my reg proofs have normal bands and these have varying blobs. I googled a photo of one and it seems to have a similar effect. I took photos but to may take me a while to load onto my pc and resize

PCGS cut off date refers to the day the coins are shipped from the Mint...so if they are shipped on day 30 and you do not open the box you can take your time submitting them. Not keen on this because the FS POP's are never a final number... NGC requires that for Early/First Release they must RECEIVE them by the cut off date. Sealed box means nothing (for regular issues). This makes it a bit easier to have a grasp on the ER POP's but limits the time you have to receive them and turn them around.

IMO, the baby on the dollar looked horrible on the Mint site, and mailers showing pics of the coin. It looks better in person, but still could have been even better looking. The drawing on the COA is perfect, and looks like a cute little baby should.
Just thought I would say that. I am going to display the dollars with the baby out. I like babies, and even an ugly baby is better than FDR's mug. LoL

I agree, the dollar looks a lot better in hand than the photos. I find his is a common thing with me. Coin designs are always more pleasing when viewed in full three dimensions.

I had a similar issue on some proof sets that I received earlier this year. On the Lincoln Cent if I remember correctly. They went back. Please post pictures if you can.

Are you sure that's a blob? It's at the highest part of the coin. I'm afraid that it's a hit/PMD..... :(

The capsules scratch easily. I scratched one while getting a coin out while trying to pop it out from the bottom so I'm not surprised workers scratch them putting them in.
