Lety Valued Member United States 64 Posts	Posted 05/01/2015 10:04 am Lately I have been buying rolls of half dollar coins and would like to ask for your opinion as to what to look for and if there is tool or device I can buy to expedite the process. I have small magnified glass but its very hard on my eyes. Someone mentioned a sbu microscope but I don't know how it works. Have a great day. Report this Post to the Staff

You open the app on the computer and now you have a microscope with a viewer the size of your monitor. Just make sure you get a decent one. Not a China cheapy Report this Post to the Staff

Worked ok for a few weeks then all of the sudden the software is saying it can't run on my system. That's why I say to buy a decent, non China one. My guess is you can get a decent one starting around 80 +/- but let's wait for other members to recommend a brand Report this Post to the Staff
Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 05/01/2015 1:41 pm I would strongly recommend against a USB microscope unless you intend to be taking a LOT of pictures. $80 is pretty minimal, and there's always the fact that drivers and programs etc are designed to last for 4-5 OS iterations, tops. That means that whatever you get, I would expect it to be a paperweight in 10-15 years. I learned that the hard way with a USB microscope that will not run on anything newer than Windows XP. For the money, you could get a nice jeweler's loupe and maybe a scale and a few coins as well. My wife bought a $20 lighted magnifying lamp for her sewing, and that works just fine for searching (Whenever I can steal it!) Report this Post to the Staff
