if you look at the 1999 $2 coin you will notice that the silver colour seems to blend into the bronze. I've never seen one tinted like it. has anyone got any ideas what may have occurred here?

Blowtorch and/or held over a candle? There are rumors that heating/cooling these coins can cause the middle to pop out, so this could be a botched attempt at the same.

not much chance of that as it came out of a sealed roll and packaged right away.
