I don't think the toning is ugly at all. Beautiful natural looking old Half Dime!

Can you elaborate on how you would sell the coin the US market (if that is what I think you are implying). You can submit to a U.S. Based auction house that will submit to a TPG (PCGS or NGC) on your behalf. That is what I would do.

Looks like a nice coin with a value of perhaps around $2,000 but most collectors would not touch it if not in a NGC or PCGS holder.

Thanks for posting.

Everyone seems to agree the coin is right around VG8, so unless other info leads me to believe the grade is higher/lower, I would be willing to sell it at roughly 70-80% of G6.

Do you all think this would be a fair pricing strategy? And if so, what would be the average G6 price, ballpark of course, with variety a mistery still...

Thanks again to all!!

Selling it raw in that price range should not be a problem but consider that as a problem-free VG8 it would likely bring $1600-$1800 and as 75% of G06 money you're around $1000. Certification makes sense and if that's too big an issue from Canada then I'd list it on some coin forums asking $1000 USD obo.

I'd simply sell it among my other auctions on ebay. I would sell it for 1100 all day long at G6. I think that's really fair price, given these are so scarce. I'm extremely hesitant to sell it privately through the mail system, as there is little buyer - seller protection. I have been offering a few of the big players on ebay the piece, just testing the waters basically... if any were to offer 1100, I would be inclined to sell. Leaving a net of just over 1k after ebay fees.

I really appreciate all the info!!

I seem to have found the same exact coin on Heritage.

http://coins.ha.com/itm/early-half-...a/230-6006.s

They listed the coin as a V-4, LM-10 R.3.

If it was you who bought this coin from Heritage back in 2000 you are in for quite a nice profit on your investment.

All hail the research king OLcoins!! Haha..

That sure does look like the exact same coin!! It was not me who purchased the piece back then, as I was 10 years old haha!!... but given the auction location & date, I am nearly certain it is the person whom I've bought it from. Yes, it looks like both him and I will turn quite the profit on the coin. Given we have now identified the exact coin, any one care to evaluate?

Thanks for digging that auction page up OLcoins...i am super happy!!

Absolutely needs to certified to sell to anyone. There were dangerous counterfeits that surfaced of this piece that made their way to Canada and the USA via Lebanon in the late 70s and early 80s. For that reason alone it needs to be in a TPG holder even if it ends up getting a details grade. I am NOT saying yours is not real just that to get top dollar gotta be certified.

I appreciate the input & grades guys, But I believe we have already confirmed a VG8 - CLEANED & naturally re-toned. The way we've done this, is *OLcoins has found the exact coin, previously sold by Heritage auctions in 2000. I am not saying the coin is TPG certified at that grade, but Heritage is known for being extremely accurate and sometimes even conservative when consigning pieces. It was sold back in 2000, as part of the Piedmont collection. I now have quite a few of those coins, and will be selling them off through the next little while...hopefully to appreciating U.S collectors...(CCF MEMBERS IDEALLY...)
I do however appreciate the input, and any other suggestions/comments!!

I feel as tho my buyer would get a much better deal buying the piece raw, and slabbing it himself. At this current time, I would accept, and sell the piece for around 80% of G6 money...(1k U.S +/-).
if it were in a VG8 slab, I would be inclined to sell it at VG8 money, especially after incurring the extra costs of shipping & slabbing. The fact it is a flowing hair, leads me to believe NGC or PCGS would want quite a bit of money to slab it...no?

Any ideas on rough cost to slab this beast? I am located in Calgary, AB, and would likely send less than 20 coins for slabbing along with this one. (All U.S).. I have a few capped busts and Morgans that should be boxed...
i would want a reletivly quick turnaround, with a fully insured ride.

Anyone care to ballpark it?

no more than 40 dollars US and there are dealers in Calgary who would send it in. Other options join the ANA and get NGC submission priveleges or send it to ANACS they would charge you about twenty. With all due respect it really is NOT very saleable unless authenticated and graded . Any thousand dollar plus coin that is not slabbed today raises far more questions than answers.

Thanks for the info! I don't feel as tho $40 U.S would cover it...
as far the the dealer in calgary that you're referring to that is currently submitting to U.S TPG's has forever lost my business. There is only one Calgary dealer I associate with, and unfortunately he does not submit anything, ever.

my biggest issue with sending it to a U.S TPG, is that I will only send this coin via FedEx, fully insured. This costs around $60 a trip alone, and that's if I get tricky with the customs declaration....
so that's $100+, just in shipping, plus another $50+ trip to my buyer.
We're taking hundreds just to move the coin back and fourth, and understandably, this will impact my buyers final cost...
Also, I'd like to refer to the old saying "time is money", and simply don't want to wait weeks for turnarounds.

Once this piece is sold, I have lots of other pieces to work on, I just want a quick sale basically... the Heritage auction archive is a really a gem for me, as it is an extremely rare occurrence that Heritage would auction off a counterfeit/misgraded coin, especially of this value..

I never referred to any particular dealer in Calgary. I am personal friends with two of the gentleman who are in The coin business in Calgary. Both are straight up guys. And to put you straight 40 dollars more than covers the certification cost by Ngc or PCGS or Anacs. If you send it post to the States it is about $22 Canadian signature required. Hardly a fortune. There are No customs issue with sending a coin to a TPG in the States and getting it returned. To help you the customs tariff number is 9705.00.00.60 item of numismatic interest sent for expertise. Over the last 25 years I have sent many hundreds to all three services Never a problem. Quite plainly you have no idea about how to go about this in a sane less than half frazzled fox way of doing it.
Good luck in getting proper money for this uncertified!
