there will be a reverse proof Presidential dollar in the 2016 Reagan Presidential Coin and Chronicles set. Presumably there will also be Nixon and Ford reverse proof Presidential dollars coins in 2016

I like the Truman medal in the link. I am not thrilled they are beating the reverse proof idea to death. But I guess if it makes me money then run with it

Seems to me likes its just another way for the mint to make money. This is why I do not like modern anything. Just a big scam to get the buyer to buy more modern "junk". Sorry... I am not.

I think they will look cool and be another decent collectable with potential.

I think the reverse proofs and enhanced uncirculated coins are good for the hobby. They add variety to modern coins. Now if they started colorizing coins, then that would be a different matter.

I think we missed the more important announcement. There will be a Reagan C&C set. Not long ago we were wondering if there would even be a Reagan dollar issued, let alone contemplating a C&C set.

I am going to do my best to buy all of these sets. I really like the medals and I think they will make a nice set of sets when complete.

The obvious question is, once the Presidential dollar coin series has finished, will the US Mint go back and reissue RP of all previously issued Presidential dollar coins?
I hope not, but they have to fill a hole on their budget sheet...

No, they cannot go "back in time" to previous years. They would have to reissue with 2016+ dates and to do that would require legislation to authorize the program (which ends by law after the Reagan coin is issued).

No different from other things they did mid-stream, like satin finish uncirculated coins in mint sets or business strike quarters from San Francisco. No going back.

If they do reissue the Presidents in RP, make it all in silver as the RP finish looks really great in silver. Otherwise, they're going to ride the RP gimmick as another cash cow until exhausted. (see ASE special sets and how quickly that train ran out of steam.) The formula seems to be make a few reasonably priced RP a year, to keep the train going, whereas a full RP set may just kill the golden goose prematurely.

The article says we won't see Nixon or Ford Coin and Chronicles sets in 2016 though.

Kind of disappointed that the chain will be broken from this year's sets to Reagan. Leaves me with more funds though, I suppose.

Uh, I do not think so, with the quantities that are produced. A common date Liberty Seated coin in AU/MS has better long term potential if that is why you're buying the modern stuff.

There will only be 17k produced of each C&C set (with the exception of 25k of the Kennedy C&C set). These will be smoking hot.

I saw the Truman set and I'm also a little upset that the bronze medal version is not included. I really liked how the Mint showed the reverse/obverse of the Roosevelt medal.

Starting to think they're wasting reverse proofs on this series. And I wouldn't mind seeing some colorized coins from the US Mint.
