Quote: The original sale wasn't difficult to find, and I agree with the consensus that the coin is undergraded. I intentionally withheld where the coin was to try to get opinions without people seeing the grade. Will post the results in about an hour.

The reveal. The coin is graded AG-3. I think (and so do the vast majority of you) that it is worthy of at least a G-4. I did end up winning an auction for this one. This will be the oldest coin in my collection by a full quarter century! I blew my coin budget for the year, and was planning to focus on getting more gold but this one just spoke to me! (Seller's picture, I do not have the coin in hand yet).

You said it would be an hour, but it was only 59 minutes! Just kidding. I think that piece is very undergraded. By the way, great coin.

I hope you 'picked it' at AG03 prices, definitely under graded.

This was one of the 5 coins that I was tracking. A beautiful coin and you picked it up at a good price. I ended up buying the $3 gold and a quarter eagle.

I would have blown my year coin budget on that for AG3 money. Very well played!

You weren't the only one tracking it, I think there were 16 people tracking it going into the live auction. I figured I would get outbid for sure, as it went right at my maximum price. Congrats on your purchases! I have been trying to get a $3 gold piece all year but keep coming up short, I actually bid on one earlier in this auction and was quickly outbid. I don't know if I will get one now that I spent the money on this piece. For some reason my boss doesn't set aside extra coin money for me!

This was well-bought indeed. We should issue specific CCF Seal of Approval stickers to compete with CAC for coins like this.

This coin is worthy of a resubmit. No way is this AG3

That's a head-scratcher. I could see a conservative grader going G04 but AG3? It's better than that.

I have never submitted anything to a TPG but this could be the first. Or maybe with the popularity of CAC I could get the elusive gold sticker?!

This means a lot coming from someone with your expertise. This is definitely a case where I bought the coin and not the slab! And I like the idea of CCF stickers!
