Mine came in this Thursday. I don't quite like these coins and am planning to send them back to the mint.

I called yesterday and requested a call tag for the one I received. It's such a shame that someone messed up the dies like they did. I just can't imagine what anyone involved was thinking. It just looks so bad it almost had to be intentional, but why? I wonder if they're all this way or if perhaps the first ones minted don't show the polish/scratch lines. I'm also wondering if the backordered coins are going to be made without the polish/scratch lines once the mint realizes how many returns they're going to get because of it.

Sure sounds like some presales happened before the 30th and big boys got a look see before that date? Their coins just back from the TPGs don't seem to have the die polishing marks nor the reported dings. So what us little guys that ordered on the 30th must have been the rejects, those coins that could only grade SP68 or less. Sure smells fishy that a lot of single collectors are sending their coins back this week. All the Mint cares about is making the premium upfront, they don't care once it's launched whether it's a success or a bust on the secondary market. It's a real shame this cash grab against the collector base in favor of the deep pocketed resellers.

As I have said before, this coin will be much lower in the coming months, especially with falling PM prices. Its like the perfect storm that can hit unsuspecting collectors: an artificial demand environment that will run out of steam in the coming months AND a falling precious metal market = way lower prices on ebay in the coming months. If one really wants this coin you sit and wait for the next 3-6 months and this coin will be much lower than the mints initial release price.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement plastic capsule for this coin?

You'd think if you were going to ask $17,500 for a coin you could take a better picture of it even if it took you 250 tries to get a good one

Dear Friends: Yes, I am brand new here, and I look forward to being involved in many discussions with the good folks here. I'm doing something n00bs shouldn't usually do, which is jump in right away with a request for help, but if you don't mind, here we go, and thanks in advance for any help. Yesterday, I received my copy of the coin under discussion in this thread. I happen to think the coin is very attractive, but there are two problems that I hope you can help me evaluate. First, the "D" in God is defective. I'm sorry I only have iPhone pictures, but as I can best describe, the letter is, for lack of a better phrase, banged up, and it has what looks like a smudge of black grease on it. Also, on the reverse, the rim is dinged up, not terribly, but visibly to the unaided eye, from about the "D" to the first "A" in the national title. Sorry, I couldn't capture it in a picture. Finally, I assume not, but would this represent an "error" in the technical sense, making the coin worth keeping? I know this is a business strike, and not a proof, but do you experts think I should return the coin and hope to get a cleaner one?

Centsei here at CCF everyone is welcome to ask for help at any time: new member, veteran member or somewhere in between. The people here are friendly and eager to help. That said, I would return that coin for a replacement. There is no reason you should have to accept a sub par example. -MV

If I were you I would return in hopes of getting a cleaner one. I'm not thinking this is a error in a traditional sense of the word, you could replicate that at home if you wanted. So although it might have happened at the mint, it's more of an example of poor quality control compared to a collectable error IMHO.
