My five sets got shipped, no shipping notice because it's being sent in five separate shipments. The order itself got sent to backorder because of the three coin & medal sets. The CSR rattled off five tracking numbers. This order process has been unreal.

Quote: Sounds more like they based it on the sales of the previous two and made no allowance for the popularity of the reverse proofs, and no allowance that they were creating a very rare variety in a widely collected series. Agreed. If the reverse proof were a factor in the decision, the mintage limit would almost have to match that of the March of Dimes set. However, I can see it being half (or more) of that total since the dime is more collected that the Presidential dollars.

All my past orders say shipped, and the list goes back a couple years. I have to say, my experience on ordering this set has been the best yet. And I have ordered most all .. if not all, the special sets going back to the 2006 20th ASE set.

My experience has never been that bad, in comparison to other online purchases, but it does seem to get faster and faster with each order.

I would ask how can the mint be so naive to think that 17k coins with a scarce, new feature would not sell out quickly and even quicker with a HH limit of 5 coins, but I won't ask because I know this is the mint we are talking about. I am glad I was able to get my order in and it is currently being shipped. If they had any clue they would have known this was going to happen. You can't base a new coin such as this with the previous sales of coins that are considered normal and not unique. It was different to actually read an email from the mint explaining their reasoning. I would like to read their reasoning for all of their sales, that would be interesting. Just find it all too hard to believe they are this naive concerning sales and their customers.

Jut go back to the SAC "enhanced finish" set that they totally forgot to mention in the press releases...
They are obviously not savvy to the collecting world...

@Teach: from time to time, the mint creates an instant rarity because it's low and presumably cheap, say $10 with mega appreciation room. This is not like a 17K $150 puck which has a limited audience, but supposedly in a common coin series, now with probably the key coin in the entire 10-year run. It remains to be seen if they'll stick to their guns and keep the 17K/5 HHL for the Eisenhower C&C release next month. Let's wait and see if they've learned anything from this fiasco (on their side) or if history's gonna repeat itself.

Given that all the coins were minted before the first one was sold, that they all literally sold within 15 minutes, and that there is no way to know if order shipped has anything to do with order minted, the entire batch of coins should qualify as "First Strike". Whether you send it in within thirty days are after five years, there's absolutely no way to know if it was one of the first to be minted. This issue of coins demonstrates how completely worthless the "First Strike" label is. It has nothing to do with the quality of strike, period. The only thing "First Strike" does tell someone is that it was certified within thirty days of first issue.

@Cascade Quote:I might just have to get an ANA membership to send a couple to ngc for first strike and hope for a 70 Technically every one is a first strike as I read it in the email previously posted by the mint which to me reads that all of the 17,000 sets have already been minted and no more were goign to be minted and are all at the fulfillment center and orders are being processed in the order that they were received. Now of course I may have read to deeply into it and the mint underestimated sales and only has 5,000 sets at the fulfillment center. Quote: A total of 16,780 sets were sold in approximately 15 minutes. All accepted orders will be processed and fulfilled on a first-in, first-served basis according to existing United States Mint policies. The product inventory is at the fulfillment center for immediate shipment to customers. No additional inventory will be produced

Ya trust me I know that Bret but it could add cache and value nonetheless. Like I said my 2013 superman set was only 10 000 and they are FS and that label commands a higher price for them. I'm not a believer in the FS BS personally just the premium it brings...
On another note I would think more people would be talking about this. This seems to be the best thing to come along since 1995!
