Hi, new guy. I just registered to post this. I have been seeing some obviously fake NGC slabbed 2014-w Gold Eagles on ebay. I tried contacting the seller on one of them and never got a reply. The other had sold before I ever ever saw it. What do you do when you see them? Contact ebay? The seller? Here is the link to the current one 161760424027Two previous ones 151712347485271897016739

What do you see that makes it obviously fake? I'm no expert, but I went to NGC Registry, and the number on the current auction, matches up to the item, and the pictures look the same to my untrained eye.

OK, after closer scrutiny, it looks like the auction has mirrored fields, and the one on NGC has an almost matte finish on the fields.

I'm definitely not an expert, but these things stand out like a sore thumb. A bunch of stuff jumps out if you look carefully. Just a couple other things that jump out are the font on the date. The way the 2 intersects the beam. On this one and one of the others, the lack of a "w" mint mark. But like you said, the mirrored field is enough to realize it without further scrutiny.
All these have the same label, but do have different numbers.

I was only asking for my education, hope you didn't take it as anything different.

Geese those are some bad fakes. What you should do when you see one is to post a link here so all of us can report it.

On the one still active he describes it as a proof 70 1/2 oz when label says ms and it's a 1oz. If these are fake they are very good ones. I bet ngc would like to be notified about this guy

ebay (pointless) and NGC notified.... Usually these creeps put up a 1 day listing so it's sold before it can be reported but this dude still has 5 days left... Oh...nice catch BTW

I'm happy to report that that the Chinese fakers still aren't able to get the bar code right. The NGC app on my iPhone tried scanning it in and listed it as "not found."

These fields of these coins look more like proof coins than mint state pieces. That should have been a dead giveaway.

You can buy them in lots of 10 for $2.50/each but it is the slab that bothers me more than the coin
