Quote: I too am wondering how it will go. Since Truman was the first RP C&C will it always be worth more or will the other (possibly more popular) Presidents be worth more, which in turn may raise the value of the Truman even farther? It is going to be a fun next few months! :D Ike sets have already sold on ebay. It's going to be insane. My guess is that sealed boxes of 2 will go for over $400.

Usually summer months are considered "slow season" for coins ans stock.... so I guess the Mint want to crank up the activities dial. They may have gave us more than a 'double shot caffeine' ..... Should we give some credit to the new management team at the Mint?

There's been a regime change at the mint? If that's true it adds more questions than answers in terms of intentional brilliance or plain ignorance with the c&c's. I'd like to think it's a brilliant marketing move to spur interest in future mint offerings while creating instant keys. If that's true I highly doubt they will be surreptitiously putting these in a December set as it would do the exact opposite

I am in the crowd of the IKE's going for moon money also, mainly because IKE was actually on the Dollar coin already. There are more IKE collectors out there than any coin with Truman on it. Only reason the Trumans were a big hit was due to the new RP and the super low mintage. The IKE, having the same low mintage and more of a following should be why this one will be a winner also. I say get as many as you can.

I agree about the Ike dollar being popular, but I think that next year's Reagan will be the most popular. This is because more people are obviously alive that remember Reagan and coin collectors as a whole tend to be on the conservative side of the political spectrum. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the mintage of the Reagan dollar is set above the 25k Kennedy dollar mintage.

I might not guarantee it, but I can see the Reagan being more popular having the higher mintage.

I don't think the Mint's marketing team had any idea any of this was going to happen. If they did, they wouldn't have started out with a HH limit of 5 coins on the Truman set. AND after seeing what happened with the Truman set they still have the HH limit for the IKE set at 2 instead of 1. So in summary....I think this is the standard, same old Mint and they have no idea of what they are doing. :-)

Lol Teach, you are right about the mint not knowing what they are doing. About Reagan being a popular coin, I know for a FACT I'll be grabbing one of those for my collection. You hit it on the head about him being alive and remembered more than most the others by the 50 yr and younger crowd. Sorry, if I'm hitting on the age thing but I was born in the Jimmy Carter years, but I don't remember him as well as I do Reagan. Reagan should be a winner in my book no matter the mintage.

Seeing as there's not yet a Kennedy Chronicles set thread yet, I'll post this here for now: The Kennedy Coin and Chronicles set will have a product limit of 50,000 sets and a household ordering limit of 2.

The mintage of the Kennedy set has already been set at 25k.

It seems the Mint upgraded that product limit to 50,000 sets after the performance of the Truman set.

17k, 25k, or 50k, does not matter. As long as I get my one set the world is safe from my wrath.

My theory is, if they planned this, is that they are using the truman and ike as a loss leader to spur future business. It is highly plausible even right down to knowing they would up the kennedy if their little plan worked. But, again, it's like new coke in the 80s, are they this smart or they could have hired a 50th floor pr/ad firm to lay this strategy out for them... or they really are severely incompetent in their own field and just stumbled into a situation that will be highly beneficial to future earnings.

It seems more that the Mint is figuring it out as it goes. The biggest thing they should learn is that new finishes (reverse proof, enhanced uncirculated) get collectors' blood boiling. For the Kennedy set, from the Mint's standpoint, why sell 25,000 when you think you can sell 50,000?
