' dollar cost averaging ' you automatically buy more when the price is low and buy less when the price is high...stock market and silver market I live by it...but will I ever sell?

I would, if the right reason came up. Emergency operation for one of my kids, our car blew up and we just spent our e-fund on an emergency operation for one of my kids, or because I lose interest in the hobby (not likely!)

After all they are just lumps of metal, there are many things in life of greater worth.

My coins are an insignificant part of my net worth (which is not all that much).

If I ever had to sell them, then things are really bad.

Hmmmmm....

Well, I certainly have plenty of coins that I bought either specifically for my various albums or because they are somehow "special" in one way or another (including various key date coins of series I don't otherwise collect and all the classic proof coinage I have been slowly accumulating). I don't plan to ever sell any of those and hope to pass them down to my son someday.

When it comes to stuff like this, however, I don't think I would have a problem selling it if I were desperate for money or simply because the cost of silver ever skyrocketed again. I do enjoy buying numismatic silver more than plain bullion, but I'm not buying it purely as a collector.

Valid point. I am buying purely as a collector with no concern for future gains. That is why I have investment accounts. They are just numbers, no sentiment there.
