I go back far enough to have handled (and owned) many fine pieces, but probably the most interesting thing I actually held (not owned) was an original bank-wrapped roll of 1932-D BU LWCs just before it was opened (early 1970s).

24 hours in the deep freezer got a silver quarter to about -12°F. That was pretty cool. For me, it was probably the quarter eagle that my grandfather had. It was a wedding present from his mother, which was a pretty big deal since it was some of the first money that his late father had made after moving to America. Unfortunately, it's been lost for years. From my current collection, my favorite is probably my 1852 3 cent silver. Neither rare nor valuable, but it has always intrigued me as a denomination, and has one of my favorite designs on a 19th century coin.

Probably my highlight was holding a PCGS (OGH, as I recall) 1794 Lib Cap (don't know the Sheldon number) in 66.
I remember it distinctly, the guy was also standing next to a table with ... was it 10 or 13... bronze Libertas Americanas, all graded AU+ by NGC. It was a pretty incredible table!
Oh, and I recently got to check out a Jefferson Head in 40ish. : ) Good days!

Nothing too expensive. I held a common date MS64 saint gaudens $20. That was cool.

Supergrafx I am going to have to agree with you there. The size of a double eagle/1oz gold coin is the perfect size to weight ratio. That feeling of holding that chunk of AU gets my blood flowing.

This thread is awesome, thanks for creating it. I've held: Raw 1909 S VDB with XF details my LCS bought at the beginning of the year for dirt cheap. They later put the coin in a 2x2 and the owner lost it. He put it in a really bad spot; in a blue whitman album just laying there so anyone could probably have stolen it. I think I've held a 55 DDO. Raw I've also handled about half a dozen 1914 D cents. An 1882 MS66 Shield nickel, proof Indian Head cents, beautiful CC morgan's from AG-3 up to MS65+. Just a ton of coins. I've been to the Smithsonian and I was inches away from the 1913 V nickel, 1933 Saint Guadens, 1804 Dollar, etc. My LCS knows me really well ( loyal customer since 2004 :D ) and will let me handle whatever coin I'd like to see behind the display. We are talking about coins ranging from $30 all the way up to 10K+. My personal collection: 1925 Norse American Thin Silver Medal, an AU-UNC coin that I picked up several months back for a mere $10. Also have handled a number of raw and certified $20 Saint Gaudens. Out of my personal collection, I've handled a raw (approximately) MS61 1907 $5 gold piece. A beautiful coin.

Also handled a raw 1877 Indian Head cent that the owner also bought along with the 1909 S VDB book. He bought a complete book of IHC's from 1859-1909S (or missing the 09S, cant remember) for really cheap. Also 3 near complete books (2 1914 D's and that 1909 S VDB plus everything else complete) for somewhere around a $100 total. I think he made like $1000 off of the 1877 indian that I was able to hold.

Several days ago my LCS showed me a box full of ngc slabbed coins. In there was the proof Indian Head cents that I listed (too bad they were detail coins), and a 1796 G details LC. Couldn't seem to get my hands away from that LC.

Held my first 1909 S VDB today, a PCGS 64 red. Pretty cool, but something about the holders makes it seem like I really didn't hold it. Probably because I didn't really hold it...

For me it is probably an 1851 880 Reeded Humbert $50 gold slug. It's just a big coin.
However, the coolest (but not really worth anything) is probably an 1871 Round Liberty (California Fractional Gold 25C BG-857). It just tiny compared to the $50 slug.

An outstanding and almost perfect 1916D Mercury dime. However, it was a fake but still looked real.
