Valpo is about 120 miles from where I live... Was hoping it were closed. I think the wife would kill me if I drove 2 hours just to visit a vending machine

Quote: The location is just off of I-80 in (or near?)Valparaiso In. on W 1050 N I have family in Chesterton. Time to send them on a mission. Nice find, by the way. I would have emptied that machine. Probably would have lost money in the deal, but it would have been fun.

My son got a 1930 Buffalo nickel out of a machine just like that at a Big Boy restaurant in Cherokee, NC a few years ago. I think it cost him 50 cents. Actually, it cost me 50 cents! But - a nice coin for 50 cents!

Pretty cool. I used to collect baseball cards and have seen baseball card vending machines with the chance to win a valuable rookie card for 50 cents. I tried a few times and all I ever got was junk. Never seen a coin one though!

I can hear 'The Entrance of the Gladiator' from here... Step right up Ladies and Gents, gather round! See the amazing Double duty, Goodie bear rare coin vending machine! Gur-an-teed not to rust, bust, collect dust, crawl on its belly like a reptile, or make childbirth at 60 a pleasure. That's right folks, right here in Valpo, U S of A. The one, the only, a winner every time! Just 75 cents, that's right folks just 6 bits and you could win a 1932-D quarter or an 1877 Indian Head cent! Just drop in your money and turn the handle. Ding! Ding! Ding! (Coins going in) tuurnnnn click! shwooomp, clunk! Shwiip (top comes off).... Hey wait a minute. Hey mister! This is just a circulated Wheat cent. I can get this at the coin shop for SHWIIIIPPPP! MMpph! MMpH! They got packing tape like that at the coin shop, kid?

I've seen these. I used one once. It just cost me a quarter I believe. Tells you how long ago this was, maybe 8-10 years ago.

I've seen them before. There is nothing special about the machine, and you can buy the machine and supplies (capsules) online. If you had someplace where you could put the machine, it might be a good way to get rid of a bunch of duplicates. You can get a machine with stand for about $150 and 2000 empty capsules for about $60 to $80.
