Steel gray and with enough detail to be called XF. Hairlines, though hidden, are visible. How does that work...though hidden, are visible?

I think if you don't look at the coin, you won't see the hairlines. In that case, they remain hidden!

I once went to a silver dollar club meeting at some coin show. The moderator was a well known dollar dealer. He looked at the people in the room and said "Well, folks I'll tell ya, there's still a lot of nice dollars out there, but I'll tell ya what, there aren't many!" The guy I was with looks at me and says "Run that by me again?!"

If you go looking for hairlines, you will see them. Sounds like a very good description to me. It allows the reader to be informed.
