Just getting back into it after a small break but a couple for me with the primary ones being Jefferson's and Ike's. Love me some Ikes. My only real problem is I want to build a out the nice Dansco albums I have with BU coins that are nice to look at but also feel like BU coins belong in Airtite's or similar for protection. I'm not crazy though about any of the airtite album options though and for large collections it prohibitively expensive. Guess I just have to bite the bullet and realize that everything is a compromise and if stored properly the Dansco won't really hurt my coins.

Sometimes I have to remember not to overthink these things and take some of the fun out of it.

My two oldest Dansco albums are almost 31 years old, and one of them is the Eisenhower album. I have no regrets. My albums have proof coins in them as well. Just be mindful of how you store them. Low humidity, stable temperature. Ziploc bags and desiccants can only help.

I just completed my Canadian Large-Cent folder. Another folder bites the dust!!

My next major Canadian challenge is now to finish the Small-Cent collection. I need eight to complete them, but seven of them are post 2002 cents.

On the USA side, my vision is now on my Mercury dime folder. I just need five of them to complete the set, and all five are fairly common types, and I'm hoping to find them for around $50 total.

The only other USA collection I haven't completed is the Lincoln Cent. My want list is down to 16 dates/types; seven are pre-1930 and the other nine are all 1930's. I'm having trouble getting the 1930's cents for less than $1 each. If I get close to finishing (aside from both 1909-S's and the 1914-D) I might spend the extra cash to get the cheapies.

The only thing in a folder that I am working on is a US Type Set.

I also collect Ancient Chinese, but those don't fit into albums very well.

I'd be curious to know what people do when you are filling an album, but some of your coins are in slabs. It seems a bit extravagant to have a (second), non-certified coin just to fill the hole, but it's also frustrating to have a hole when you know you have the coin. Anyone else vexed by this?

I'm currently working on an UNC set of Commemorative Dollars 1983-Date. They are housed in 2 plain Dansco Silver Dollar Albums.

Not yet, but when it happens, that coin will be cracked and put in the album. No excuses, no regrets.

icculus, take a look at a new company and there CAPS Albums at http://www.capsalbums.com I have purchased about a dozen of their albums, and have been switching out of all my dansco and 2x2 albums into these. Theses are the BEST air-tite albums I have come across, and I have been searching for a decent one for years. I have had many coins tone in dansco albums, or kointains. Airtites are the best and these albums display them beautifully.
I plan on doing a post showing them off with pics of before and after when I get some time. any questions about them, you can email me!

Hi crusherjc. Thanks for the tip on the CAPS albums. I tried to email but think I'm too new to use the system and it shut me down.

I like the looks of those and think I might try a couple out. Can you tell me a little more about the pages. They look almost like a clamshell type package. Do you have any problems/concerns about the weight of full pages when vertical? I didn't see much about the binder and slip cover but assume they are archival? Thanks again for the info/tip. A little pricey for the larger collections when you combine the album and all the airtites but I definitely like.

Cheers

icculus, the pages are not a clamshell type (like the lighthouse pages) The airtite presses into the page and locks in. I've only done two albums so far, Kennedy halves being the heaviest coin I've done, and the page holds the airtite securely in place. I was going to use my Lighthouse Grande binders for these pages, but I ordered one of their album binder to see the quality, and it is very good, so I got them for all my newest albums complete with binder and slipcase, They look fantastic on my shelf! They are a leather type album, and I hope they are made to be safe! Only thing I dont like is that, it is made in China, wish it was done here, but it seems nothing is made here anymore. They are a little pricey, but they are the best I've come across, and I've spent so much money on quite a few different albums over the years, hoping these will be my last!! You can also order custom pages, and they are the first company that has allowed me to custom imprint pages. I made a few so far, as I collected a little differently then the way a few of there pages were laid out.
Will post a few pictures when I get a little time.

Update on mine I won a lot of silver proof quarter sets 1999-2009 on ebay for $240. Most people must have missed that there were two 1999 silver quarter sets and missing the 2002. So figuring $50 each for the 1999s, that means the rest were only about $15.5 each. Got the 1999-2001 and the 2007 I needed to complete my Dansco! Will post pics once I get them all in!
