Quote: @Lostwords: 10K I know for this release, it is 10k but are they usually 10k or the mintage for silver dollar usually much bigger? I asked because a few have noted this is a limited edition?

As SD collectors mentioned in the past: The Canada Silver Dollar was (and still) " RCM flagman-ship". It was struck in quantities, able to satisfy the collectors. For example: 2003 Proof $1 100th Ann Cobalt Silver Discovery Silver Dollar has a Mintage of 88,536 (final) hence, recently, the some of Silver Dollars issued as "Limited Edition" with mintage 10.000 and lower

Quote: I know for this release, it is 10k but are they usually 10k or the mintage for silver dollar usually much bigger? I asked because a few have noted this is a limited edition? The RCM began issuing "Special Edition" or "Limited Edition" silver dollars back in 1997 when it released the "Flying Loon" SD coin to mark the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Loonie; it was a sell-out at 25,000 units. In 2002, the RCM issued the LE Queen Mother SD; it had a mintage of 10,000 and was also a sell-out. Up until that time, it was the lowest mintage NCLT SD issued. Since 2002, the RCM has issued one or more LE/SE silver dollars every year; most of the time they are standalone releases, but occasionally are part of a set. Almost all of the LE/SE SDs have had mintages between 5,000 and 10,000 (though a handful have eclipsed 20,000). This compares to the "standard edition" annual SDs (released each January) which recently have had sales in the range of ~30,000 proof coins and ~20,000 BU coins. These recent figures are much lower than the SDs from the 1970s through 1990s. Back then, sales exceeded 100,000 for the proof versions (and sometimes were >500,000!) and 60,000 for the BU coins (and sometimes were >100,000!). The 10,000 authorized mintage limit for the new Flanders Fields SD is in line with most other LE/SE SDs that the RCM has issued. The gap between its potential mintage and that of the annual coins, however, has shrunk quite noticeably since the SD's banner days with collectors.
