I found this 1992 D cent. I cannot identify the type of error of the shadow under the D. Any help would be appreciated.

This is called split plating. It happens to Zinc Lincoln cents, especially around the mint mark. What does the reverse look like? Check for Close AM.

It appears thaqt there is some shadowing on the reverse, too.

I agree Split-Line Doubling, split plating, Plating Split-Doubling. No matter what you call it it's; a split in the copper, revealing a light blue to greenish area (which is exposed zinc), that shadows a device and makes it appear doubled.

THank you for the information. I have a lot to learn and find the coin forum very interesting.
So, split-line doubling must be a common occurance and this coin is not special.

I'llkeep looing at the site and learn as much as possible.

It usually happens when the strike is too strong, damaging the coin. Most commonly found on the mint mark, but also affects the reverses:
