Anyone actually notice that the new individually Hockey Goalie Coins DO NOT come with the standard maroon clamshell case the mint uses on most coins.

It's actually a light brown clamshell case.....and looks pretty good too

About time the Mint changed it up a little and gave some variety.

I think the leaves are just coloured to represent the primary colours of the various teams. That is:

Toronto and New York - blue
Boston - yellow
Montreal, Detroit, and Chicago -red

There are shade differences in the blues and reds.

Thanks shopaholic:
So even with a super precious rock...it doesn't really work - even on a gold coin..

I would like to see Canada's gemstone, ammolite, used on a coin. It would look great whether on a silver or gold coin.

I am and I did not order the set. I might consider buying some individual coins or the set but only at a discount. To me, they're simply not worth $450 and I doubt the market will support the price or mintage. Not terrible designs but not the best either IMO.

Had they done the same 6 goalies that Canada Post honoured, I might have been more tempted. Those being Worsley, Brodeur, Dryden, Parent, Bower and especially for me, Esposito.

How about you Tender? Did you order?

@ CC Ottawa

Sawchuck, Cheevers, Giacomin, Plante.....heck they coulda made a 12 coin set....and they are all Canadian to boot.

Yes, I bought the set for my son for Christmas, he's a Hockey and Lacrosse Goalie. I'm sure he'll enjoy them.

It will look nice in his basement that he just finished....I'll get to look at them whenever I visit

I noticed RCM still has most Oct coins as pre-sale. They must be releasing to the public tomorrow (Monday). I was always curious as to how many they keep for themselves to sell, and if it's a low number, thus creating the look of urgency to get the coin, as it may be a hot item and sell out. I looked at 3 coins I liked the look of and checked how many are left. All three of these are still pre-sale.
The first coin with a stone on it has a mintage of 4000 and is showing only 162 left.
The second coins has to do with a ship and has a mintage of 7000 with 2109 left.
And the third coin has to do with Remembrance Day. It has a mintage of 15000 and is showing 2782 left. This is the least expensive of all the silver coins to be released this month.
I'd say it won't take long for the stone and Remembrance Day coins to sell out at RCM and then creating a "Sold Out at Mint".

Do you mean by this "In Flanders Fields" coin?

Looks like RCM started to "overuse" the theme.
The Silver Dollar with enameling could be the "grand finale"....
Although it affordable, I do not believe, that it will be sold out (might be at the Mint, but even this with low probability).

Two others that you mentioned:
Ships - very niche theme. Many people even not care to know about it.
Maple Leaf - gimmick coin, to attract big amount of customers, it should be more special, less expensive and twice less in mintage.

well, above just my speculations. Same I told about 2013 Superman Gold (still don't get, what for people initially paid CAD 750), and I was wrong.

There is maybe one or two coins that you can't buy for under issue price in the last two years and probably none this year.

John100;
Would you or others agree that select big coins ie loonie and 25 cents and perhaps 10 cents are the ONLY RCM coins that cannot be found for issue or less for 2015 releases?

I thought for sure the big coins series would hold value, the basic traditional designs you can't beat, but now in todays market and their endless RCM releases, not sure. Recent TCNC auction results were terrible for NCLT. At recent Coin Expo the dealers with NCLT had very little or no action since the first superman gold coin really nothing has a buzz.

From a purely "buzz" perspective, I would say a new coin release per day average significantly dilutes the "buzz" factor...indeed.
The big coin series is an interesting study in that many call for lower mintages yet here is a very good looking set of coins...with a very low mintage for silver product...and I get the argument about the price...yet the "buzz" or wow factor was not too evident...

The Moonlight Fireflies 2 oz coin and the maple leaf shaped coin are no longer available for issue.

Same with the big coins.

Still, that is a pretty bad record considering there are hundreds of new coins released every year.

As mentioned on another thread, I was able to get a 1/2 kilo coin for $500. Original issue price was $1099.
As a buyer I got a great deal but the seller lost a ton of money. Its awful to think what my collection will bring when I no longer collect.

Here are some of the results from the TCNC auction.

The candy cane coins sold for $65, $70, $76 (prices include the 18% buyers fee).

The Snow Man Glass coin - $82
The Gold Looney Tune - $596
Moon Mask Set - $236
Group of 7 set - $295
