The big coin series my guess was sold mainly in sets to receive the case and had 1500 limit like all 5 oz. coins. Did not see any of these at Coin Expo, but did see all the recent RCM stuff along with the maple leaf coins for issue price or offers, it's just a sad state for collecting at the moment.

Quote:On the Shopping Channel yesterday, Steven Bromberg mentioned that there is a set coming in October that will be "similar" to the Big Coins and he expected it to sell out in minutes at the Mint. He indicated a similar 1500 mintage but that he would be back on the TSC Oct 9th with the set at issue price even If it sells out at the RCM. His hyperbole aside, what might this be? Could it be a 1oz version of the circulation coin set? Any idea what this is yet? :/

Maybe a gold version, or they beat the theme by a 10 oz. silver version, not much more you can do with this theme.

Quote:I thought for sure the big coins series would hold value, the basic traditional designs you can't beat, but now in todays market and their endless RCM releases, not sure. Recent TCNC auction results were terrible for NCLT. Yes, auction results were terrible, but the Big Coins did very well. Also, the 50 cent and Loonie Big Coins seem to be holding their value on ebay, so far. Most of them are selling above issue at the moment. However, this seller ended his auction for the 10 cent Bluenose on a Sunday evening (bad move IMO), and got only CDN$455 for it. Buyer paid $462.95 with shipping: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/371446789924...RK:MEBIDX:ITWho knows how these will do with such poor sentiment. I'm optimistic that this will change eventually when spot price soars into the triple digits. Then we can sell our coins for melt value. LOL OK...I can dream, can't I?

All dealers deserve to make profits, but as in this example there is a possible 170.00 mark up on this coin they still made a small profit. This coin needs to be sold in sets with the case, that would be an interesting sale, once again not many dime collectors, even a 5 oz. version

I assumed, that Big Coins should go well. Without fantastic premium, but to hold the price. Priced high, but very well maid, really low mintage and attractive theme. For myself - picked up the 50 cent only and happy with it. Probably, yes, the Dime is less collectible... But why Big Toonie still in stock for issue, at CA after full month of sales: https://www.colonialacres.com/produ...xempt-134871

Than CA got a second batch of 5 coins over a week ago, and now only 4 left. So these big coins are selling (though slowly).

I ordered the Drusy stone coin instead of the Venetian Glass coin, I think it looks good on the site, but will probably look even better in hand.

Glad I bought the Big Loonie when it first came out :)
on topic.....Drusy stone coin doesn't float my boat....with the 4000 mintage might hold its value though? I think id rather spend the money on six 1 oz silver maples.....which I probably should have done on the 2016 fractional set Aswell ,but a man has to splurge sometimes....I see the 2016 Fractional set is back in stock again.....LOL

Off topic, but the New Zealand Mint will be coming out with Back to the Future 30th Anniversary coins this month. Looking forward to picking up the silver coins (DeLorean and Hoverboard).

Still can't understand the idea of buying the coin, just cause it "might go up". For resell - yes, but for collection? But of cause - it personal. Don't care if this one will be OOS. Currently, RCM sold the first batch, that allocated for MC. Dealers will have it, at least tomorrow, and might be RCM again.

You should always buy coins for it's theme or designs, but on the other hand you don't expect in 6 months to find the same item for 25 to 30% less routinely.

agree with this. but first criteria (filter) - it is design / theme etc, and than possibility to increase or decrease in value.
