Was wondering if something like this existed - but I need to learn a lot more on my own before being qualified to take this - maybe down the road sometime.

Zonad, myself and a few others took this course a couple years ago... some things were quite interesting, while other things left me scratching my head. Overall, I think you'll enjoy it.

Any course that furthers knowledge of numismatics is a good thing. Enjoy! I know I am grateful for all the opportunities I took advantage of. Especially the counterfeit courses over the years.

I plan on attending and bringing some challenging pieces to study in the hands-on portion of the program, including some ICCS certified ones that I believe should be challenged

Good luck with that.... (been there, done that, got the t-shirt). For a good perspective on ICCS grading, the two part interview with Brian Cornwall (by Jeff Chapman) published earlier this year by the CN Journal, is an excellent read.

Just wondering Roger, did you or Zonad break one out of a ICCS holder and try to have Brian grade it at the last Grading Seminar or did you just question the grading on a coin still in a ICCS holder?

Now awhile back I had a coin graded by ICCS once back in my hand I cut it out of the holder and sent it in again. When the coin was returned from ICCS the 2 time it had a different grade to the coin then the first time I sent it in. I just did that for fun to see what would happen.

We had examples of problem coins, in ICCS holders (without comments)...

In my opinion ALL grading companies have difficulties with consistency . Taking advantage of those situations can make a knowledgeable numismatist a lot of money. A good example......bought a 1918 Canadian 25 cents from a prominent BC dealer last year. Old 2 letter embossed. Dark toning graded ICCS AU 58. The coin was well struck and had mark free fields. There was a lot of potential. I took a chance and properly conserved the coin ( NOT Cleaning it). The coin came back MS65 ICCS. This is extreme I know but there are lots of examples out there good and bad.

Sorry Ag, no can share on this. Check out NCS for a bit of info on coin conservation. My results are quite comparable to what they offer.I assure you no abrasive methods are used, just good old fashioned knowledge. Have a good one. Aside , OT did you get my Email on the Aussie?
