Quote: Hopefully the "we need 1878" doesn't happen till after the holiday, no Net access this weekend for me. I did upload the post as a draft. I will be able to post it for you if necessary.

Thanks, I just deleted the other draft I had saved so there is only one file with the 1878 Morgan with the extra tailfeathers in my drafts folder (I assume that's what you meant). Enjoy the 4th of July celebrations everyone, hopefully the weather holds out.

1881 is out there... I got tons of hits from a search, and coincbass mentioned getting an 1881 Morgan from a roll or teller's tray.
Unfortunately, I think he is taking some time off from the hobby for personal matters!

It definitely is a "1" in that Buffalo nickel, trust me. The 1 gets very mushy at lower grades. The three lines at the base of the hair braid gives it away- it's the only date in the series with that diagnostic- both the 1921 Philly and 1921-S have this feature, along with the very wavy ribbon (also seen in the 1920). The 1920 has the wavy ribbon by no three lines at the hair braid. I'm 100% certain that it is a 1921. No harm to integrity of thread, though, and the 1923 is a pretty common date to plug.

I still have a few to post as well, so I hope we can get someone to post something.

Just an FYI reminder. I have coins for 1878, 75, 73, 70, 66, 65, 64, 57, 55, 48, 37, 34. Anyone else from our regular crowd have the years I'm missing? Might be a good idea for us to make a list and know where our strengths are and where we'll need help from the rest of the CCF community. Hope the 4th celebrations were good for everyone. Managed to see 4 1/2 firework displays (the 1/2 was from my backyard and was distant), still have one more to go but I'll probably pass on that one, unless they say one of the shells will depict a 1913 Indian Head Buffalo nickel!

I have 76(a token actually) and 79. I need to check to see if I have anything else but no 81 unfortunately. I'd be curious if anyone has a 77.

Hi mycrob - I'm sure you are right. The 1923 pickled nickel I have lacks the detail there as you probably suspect. Just as an FYI, I've been putting together a circulation set of Buffalo, so my only regret is that I'm -1 in the numerator again. Hopefully I will find a 1921...or any of the number of missing dates I have in that set...or my pickled nickel set.
It's all good!!
