I am with MoneyPenney on this opinion. If you not high-volume seller, and want just sell some coins, that you not interested in, without waiting 'forever' - prepare to lose. Personal experience: I sold 20 or 25 coins, due to different reasons, and the ones, which 'maintained the value' on the moment of selling: 2009 Summer Moon Mask 2011-2014 GiTD set (only due to the first coin) 2012 Penny Roll 1912 $5 Gold Coin (not really NCLT, I grabbed spare coin from RCM and decided to sell it) All others have been sold for 50%-70% of amount that I paid for them, leaving after fees even less. And I still like RCM NCLT. Just buying really few each year..

Quote: Many here do not sell on ebay and don't have to worry about ebay fees. When I say something keeps its value I mean that if I want to buy it I will have to pay issue price. If I want to sell it I get my money back because I sell to someone who is willing to pay close to issue price.
I do not waste money on ebay fees when selling something that is "maintaining its value." Where do you sell your unwanted coins? I tried Craiglist/Kijiji and sold one coin in ten years. There is absolute no interest in coin collecting in Vancouver using Craiglist/Kijiji. Just put RCM coins in search and there is only a handful of coins for sale. When I list coins there I get absurd responses like $1 for your coin. There is no viable option besides ebay and believe the vast majority of people use it to sell things. I would be glad to sell unwanted coins for what I paid for them but finding a buyer to pay issue price is near impossible. Why would a seller give me issue price when they can find it at a lower price?

A few of us have been discussing the beauty of the Geometry in Art coin set. I mentioned that it appears to be maintaining its price, and all of a sudden there's a descent into doom and gloom about major loss on 90% of RCM coins. Just buy what you like and don't worry about it. If you don't have the heart for gambling then don't go into the casino.

I do get some deals on auction sites; however, they are far and few between. Add up all these factors: 1. Bidding price 2. 18% buyers premium 3. tax on buyers premium 4. tax on the item if not pure .9999 5.You have to pay the shipping no matter how much you have spent. Where is the deal after all these factors? NONE unless you get extremely lucky like @Looney4Numi did. AND with Looney4Numi: "Buy what you like" and enjoy it without all this doom and gloom talk:))))))

 with MoneyPenney. Also buy NCLT you enjoy that fit with your collection and interests. Most of us will sell a coin from time to time. For small sellers the best option is either ebay or trading with fellow collectors. If you are really worried about "holding value" then stick with bullion. Just my Two Cents. Cheers!

AND with Looney4Numi: "Buy what you like" and enjoy it without all this doom and gloom talk:)))))) There are plenty of bargains at coin auctions because opening bids are usually very low. Most of the time they start at 25-30% of issue price. People factor in the fees when bidding so you never see items sell for full price. Even when fees are factored in, the final price is lower than issue price. - For most auctions, the buyers premium is 15% when paying by cash, cheque, or e-transfer. - There is no separate tax on buyers premium but on the entire amount (winning bid + buyers premium). - tax is only 5% GST for BC customers but higher for HST provinces. - tax is applicable on all non pure .9999 no matter where you buy it. Including the RCM. - Shipping is expensive if only one lot won but if you win multiple lots the cost is spread among them. Shipping is usually between $20 and $25 for entire order. Deals are best found in high price items. With items less than $100 it is not really worth it given the fees and shipping. eg. winning for one lot - issue price of $100 - sold price $50, adding buyers premium, GST, shipping, you are looking at $80.

@MoneyPenney
Some auctions have starting bids and the high priced items that are purchased can be bought at retail for what is added on after the bidding price. This is what I have seen lately at many auctions.
Sometimes you can get lucky but often the cost is almost the same....save a few bucks. PERIOD.
PMX is selling one ounce Canada 150 rounds for about 25.00. At one auction they sold for the bidding price of 60.00. Are these people aware that they are only bullion coins?

@New1954, PMX is not an auction house. They are a bullion dealer who sells on ebay. I am talking about Colonial Acre Coin Auctions, Canadian Numismatic Company, and other auction houses. The opening bids are always 50% or lower of Trends. Here is a sample page from CA's recent auction. Notice even with the buyer fees, the final prices are way below issue price. The 5 coin O'Canada set original price is $549. Sold for $170 (including buyer premium). Discount is 70% off issue. The weather phenomena set original price is $400. Sold Price including buyer premium is $244. Discount is 39% of issue.

@MoneyPenney I never said PMX was the auction house. I know it is the sister company of Canadian Coin and Currency. I stated that at an auction just last week, which I will not name, a Canada 150 round that could be bought at PMX for $25.00 sold for $60.00 plus 18% premium. I know this because I purchased some for myself when I saw that Looney4Numi posted pics on the other site. Very Nice bullion rounds. Maybe my sentence was not clear. Also, if you notice, Colonial Acres does not charge tax on the buyers' premium whereas this other auction house does. Yes, there are deals to be had as shown above; however, let me tell you that pieces like the new sculpture coins from RCM that were commissioned by you know who, went for almost the same price as original issue price which still can be purchased at original prices if you order the sub from you know where. Great deals on above items, that is if you want those sets:))))) I am not disputing that there are deals to be had and Colonial Acres is usually the best place to get them at when it comes to auction time.

@Silveroid. You're welcome. I'm always snooping around on ebay and was delightfully surprised to see the September releases so soon. When I saw the inverted pysanka planchet I just laughed.
