1967 Lincoln Double Die Penny

It is a machine damaged devices issue. On Machine Doubling you see one color on an affected area. On a normal device and doubled die, the light fades from light to dark.

Note in the center the area in lighter color next to the arrow. Because the light doesn't flow around that area turning dark, the devices have been altered during the strike on a doubled die you see two sets of light flow:

Note on this image on the left, you can see the color fade twice. On the example on the right you see the solid color because the edge of the device doesn't taper anymore but was damaged during the strike.


Note on the last image on the right the flattening of that device on the nose. I see the same thing on your coin. MD
