I stopped by a combination sports card/ coin show earlier today. There were only 2 coin dealers in attendance. All of their generic 90% silver material was individually holdered, and thus hopelessly overpriced- around 2-3x what it should have been.
Common dimes (including 1960s-era examples) were $2-$4, a variety of regular quarters were $5-8, and half dollars averaged anywhere from $10-$15 (even well-worn Walking Liberties). War Nickels were $1, and 40% silver halves were $3.
Despite the above report, there was still at least one slight deal to be had. As I was browsing, 4 lonely Franklin half dollars in the back of one dealer's coin binder caught my attention. Their 2x2 holders were labeled at a slightly-under-spot $7 (each), so I grabbed a decent 1948-D.
As far as "buy" prices went, one dealer was offering 10x face. The other was essentially uninterested in purchasing junk silver over the counter unless it was sold in bulk, but later made a passing remark about 11.5x face.
Today's silver price is $19.64/ ounce, and common junk silver is ostensibly worth 14.2x face.
