So this past Friday morning I hit a few banks as I usually do towards the end of the week... since I was busy watching The Masters golf tournament though (and working Friday night), I didn't get to opening them until Saturday night. One of the customer wrapped rolls gave me some real hope when out popped this coin: Yes, a shiny, new 1939 Jefferson nickel... Needless to say, the hope was that when I flipped the coin over there would be a mintmark... though I've found BU 1939 Phillys, an AU 1939-D, and high end XF 1939-S coins, I never have found a BU of either of the keys... So I actually said a little prayer... and when I flipped it over.... Lo and behold, there was an "S"! Other than my AU 1928-S Buffalo from a few years ago, and the aforementioned AU 1939-D Jefferson, this BU 1939-S Jefferson ranks as my best nickel find!

Thanks, jbuck! Also, upon closer inspection, that 1939-S is the harder to find Reverse of 1940 so it's worth a good bit more than I first thought! So I got some more rolls yesterday from four different banks and the group of 25 CWR from one bank looked like it had been searched through... I had only pulled a 2009-D Jefferson and no pre-60s through 17 rolls... Roll 18 though had a little surprise in store. Not quite an Uncirculated 1939, but a nice, high end XF... so I flipped it over, and... Would you believe another 1939-S? Pretty bizarre. So yes, two of those in less than a week! I'm guessing this one got missed thanks to it looking almost new. Incidentally, there was only one more pre-60 in that entire 25 roll batch (a 1957-D)... As I always like to say, "quality over quantity"!
