Looks like RCM learns its lesson. Just received e-mail from RCM's rep regarding January coins release.  Happy New Year!! I have some great news for 2016, the Royal Canadian Mint will be reducing the amount of coins produced as well as lowering the mintages for many of our products and balanced product launches. The benefits to you will be stronger coin themes, faster shipping and more sellouts. Lower mintages and fewer coins for 2016 will result in coins selling out on a regular basis. I went to my local Canada Post outlet today and they still have the S$25 Olympics coins from 2008 under glass. Another question I have is this, I've noticed a few dealers are getting large quantities of old stock. 2002-2010 stuff and reselling it at huge discounts. Any idea where they are getting it from? l300e among others are good examples.

Not exact answer, but I remember l300e bought some coin from me, and I sometimes sell the unwanted/purchased in the rush coins, by default marking them 70% of issue with the Best Offer, while accept it on 50% from issue..... (did I sell the 2012 Special Roll for $5 this way? Do not remember) |

Completely agree. Talk is cheap. 350,000 batman superman coins doesn't exactly sound like lower mintage. I know x for x coins may not be what the rep is referring to, but I'd like to see an official message from the mint vs a sales pitch from a commissioned sales rep.

My understanding is Canada Post does have wholesale clear out in Nova Scotia and firms like Canadian Coins gets stock for their Shopping show.

thanks to JustSilver for that interesting bit of info. I have been saying for a long time now, even 10,000, and even 5,000 coins is just WAY TOOOOO MUCHHHH for a single coin. Mints need to dial those numbers down to a couple thousand to hundred per coin. However, without their adjusting prices in a proper ration to silver and gold, these adjustments really mean nothing. Finally, the REAL test of whether this recent RCM news really helps their cause is how the coins act on the secondary market, such as ebay. Time will tell. |

The source for I300e is more than likely Asyn as I see them bidding there in the past often. Especially since they sell a lot in capsule only.
It would be amazing if the mint had such a quick market reaction, as they say a coin is in development for 2 yrs. Now they need to lower prices, never mind offering a payment plan. A plan is showing they're scrambling to retain customers.
The 1 oz Nascar medallion proves there's still profit @ $50 an ounce. It bothers me the $229 price they are charging for the pure silver proof set. I collect those and its price gouging at where silver spot prices are. I buy it because I like having a silver set. They probably do a large number of sets with an oz of gold. I read that gold can be rolled or applied very thin, giving a huge surface coverage.
The changes surely means something is a foot at the mint. I wonder how long marketing has pondered this. I would go for more cool circulation coins, like the poppy flag quarters, at face value. I also wonder if other world mints are going to follow suit.
Again @Yup I agree 100%,it has to include some price reduction like the US mint does. It would also help if we could see what will be released for 2016, so we could prioritize our purchases. Past years I ended up spending my budget too early.
Too get collectors on board again with nclt coins, there needs too be some meat left on the bones. The meat means, room for the coin to appreciate in future years. Their pricing policy sucks any potential increase, out from the start. Like pure silver year set. Pricing at @ $229 sucks out any potential increase.

The mintage stays the same as the previous year for the 2016 Uncirculated set at 60,000 and the pure silver proof set with selective gold plating, mintage is 20,000 again. No change in either.
That being said, there is a 2016 $25 FINE SILVER COIN that will have a mintage of 4,000, and it kicks off a three-coin series that will be released throughout 2016. Also, the Fine Silver Coins with SwarovskiŽ Crystal - Birthstones only have a mintage of 3,000. They are lower than usual, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens for the next year.

l300e is getting them from somewhere else. She lives in Ottawa. I'll buy 3 of the same S$20 coins from her, and the next day or two her listings refresh. Most of her stuff is 50% off of list price. She has an endless supply of S$4 heroes of war, S$10, S$20 old stock coins, and PL sets. It is coming from somewhere other than ebay. She is clearing someone's inventory at deep discounts. As a seller, it makes me not want to carry inventory because I can not compete with those prices, AND EVEN HER INVENTORY SITS! |

Talking about ebay sellers Asyn used to have great deals when they offered free ship. Then ship was $3 and $12 for packages. Yesterday I was browsing, haven't eBayed for a year now, a single coin is $5 and a year cardboard set is $9. Are prices so depressed they are making it on shipping. A single coin doesn't cost $5 to ship. Its got to be tough for anyone selling on ebay from Canada. I don't envy any seller on ebay they work hard and in a high risk environment. |

Ok someone explain how that ugly silver dollar is MS64. I have seen circulated coins that look better. It must of been a bad grading day. This coin is amazing and not in a good way. I guess it backs up buy the coin and not the flip. That or else I am missing something!!
You can list at any price. The only price that matters is the sold. Some buyers just aren't bargain hunters. I have seen great lakes coins and others go for issue. We all want the bargain and also too sell for the highest anyone is willing to pay. Its the name of the selling game.

Considering she lives in Ottawa, I am going to take a wild guess she is an employee of Canada Post.
All post offices send their unsold inventory to Station A in Ottawa to be dealt with at their Philatelic Centre.
