Hi there,

I've just got these Ten Cents from and after I scanned the coin with a pretty high resolution it of course didn't look as good to me as before without magnification. Is that crack on the edge a die crack or maybe rather sign of a double die? How would you grade that coin? However, it occurs to me that scanned coins always seem to look worse than coins that have been photographed properly which probably is due to the light.

The 'E' in 'TEN' looks a bit iffy, and the ring of dots is inconsistent from dot to dot, and is not perfectly circular.
The rim is quite thin under 'ENTS'. Rim denticles quite inconsistent on the obverse. There is a green spot at the leading edge of the crown.

This coin seems to have a worn down wire edge on the whole of the diameter of the reverse. Normally, a wire edge happens on one part of a diameter only, when a coin has been struck a tiny bit off center.

Despite all this, I still think it may be OK.
What do others think?

Still, it looks to be quite a sharp strike, but scans do flatten out field detail somewhat.

Should be checked for weight, what do you think of the edge milling under high magnification?

I know of later date fakes of the Hong Kong Ten Cents of George V struck in silver, when they should be struck in coppernickel. Strange things can happen in numisamtics.

The surfaces look a bit rough but maybe that's just because it has been scanned.

This is an interesting coin that I'm not exactly sure is genuine. The reverse has that long seam on the edge under the date. If you look at the gentiles a couple seem to be misaligned between the O & N of HONG. And lastly the cracked E in TEN. This all may be a sign of a worn reverse die though so a weight may help to determine if real or not. Grade wise I'd say VF-30.

I'm certain it's genuine. Coins of these era were struck in silver.

I'd say the amount of detail extant in both the crown and gown make it XF45 at worst. I don't see it as at all sketchy from an authenticity standpoint.
