I am trying to sharpen my Morgan grading skills so I will give it a shot first and see how I line up with everyone else. First its a nice Morgan. I like the toning on the reverse Obverse-MS64. Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6437 Posts	Posted 01/31/2008 9:55 pm Hi Gene Carr, Luster isn't very strong on this Morgan but that could be more from the lighting and photo than because of any defect of the coin. There is lack of definition in Liberty's hair above the forehead and ear which is probably strike-related rather than wear. It might be a slider AU, but I'd vote for uncirculated. The scuffs on the cheek would limit it to MS-64 at best IMO; strike weakness might bring it down a notch to MS-63. At that level I don't think it is worth spending the fee to have it graded. I agree with Mr. Merc: keep it raw and appreciate its beauty. Then use the money you didn't spend for grading, shipping, and insurance to buy another Morgan! Report this Post to the Staff

SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 02/01/2008 10:28 pm I'm thinking 64. By 1903 the masters were pretty well worn; you can't expect huge strikes to be common among them. The marks on the cheek are of the "rub" type as opposed to the "gouge" type, and my guess is the coin looks nicer in-hand than in the pics. The mark right below the eye would be the kicker.
