I've heard from a dealer that 1956 Dollars were also sent back to the mint the get melted back down, making them even more rare, especially in high grade. If anyone has knowledge of that It would be appreciated to learn a little more about it.

The only Silver Dollars that were returned for melting
is the issue of 1939 . Several were unissued and melted
during the Second War years of 1940-44.
The story of 1956 Dollars being returned and melted .
Undocumented and fanciful at best .
Ask the dealer for some hard evidence ?
