This is a repeat...but I bought a lot of coins that had a 1909-S Lincoln Cent listed in it along with some other nice stuff...one picture and the " I don't know anything about coins" disclaimer...I allowed $90 for the 09-S and won the auction for slightly less than my max total....it had a VDB on the reverse...and I sold everything that wasn't copper for more than my original investment.

My most fun bidding was on a 5 dollar bill. Bids went up by $5.03 incraments. I set my maximum and last bid at half price plus 9 cents.
The last 5 seconds there was a flurry of activity and pressed max bid.
3 seconds later I won by .07 cents.
7 bids in the last seconds. LOL.

1. 1965 5c large beads attached jewel ICCS EF40, highest graded of 3 known. I paid $1025 on ebay with heavy bidding, and was offered $5000 for it 2 months later. Holding out for $7-$10k. Will do TOREX 2012 with a starting bid of $10k.

2. 1936 dot-bar ICCS EF40, highest graded of 4 known. I paid $890 on ebay. Will be listing it for $5000-$10,000 soon.

3. 1893 10c round top 3, raw $2300. Sent to PCGS and hoping it fetches an EF40, or VF35. Should be worth close to triple that.

4. 1875 dime NGC VF35 for $675 on ebay....trends at $2600.

5. 1888 50c VF20 at $670. Will send to PCGS...trends at $2000.

Got hundreds of varieties at no premium...just have to get them all ICCS or CCCS'd.

I dont think I've done too bad for first 3 months of collecting.

1858/1558 10 cents in VF20 for $112 which I traded for a 1859/1856 large cent in ICCS MS62. I have a 1858/1558 10 cent in VF30 which I bought for $225(not on ebay).

I've had lots of great deals. One that I enjoyed particularly was a silver quarter I won in a group listing along with nine other 1967 centennial quarters a few years ago. The picture was poor but the seller was right. The remaining quarter was in uncirculated. And why it was included or how it got included with this group still eludes me. I sent the quarter off to ICCS and it came back MS-63. It was dated 1914. Total cost of the group of ten quarters? Eighteen dollars.

I bid on a handful of ancients on Christmas Day and won almost all of them with the opening bid. Most were around $4-$5 and should have gone for $50 and up.

I got a Flying Eagle cent in AU for ten dollars. It was a bad picture, and I decided to take a gamble.

Mine is one I missed. Someone listed"7 old Nickels" so I looked at it with a minute to go. His description was "2 Buffs,a Jefferson and 4 with a woman with stars around her" They were Liberty nickels 1884,1885(F-VF),1887,1888. The bid was at $25. I tried to bid but...I WASN'T LOGGED IN!! By the time I got to bid it was to late, it sold for $80. I think a 1885 (F-VF) is about $700.

My best steal was not a Canadian coin. I bought a lot of international nickel-composition coins. Paid $300 for the entire lot, sight unseen without knowing what was in it, mostly for the nice EF Canadian 5c coins. But, the lot also contained:

France 5 Centimes 1914 Test Strike (KM #865) - I sent it to PCGS and it came back SP-65
Belgium 5 Francs 1939 KM #116.2 French Legend, Star, Position B - came back from PCGS MS-64
Belgium 5 Francs 1939 KM #116.2 French Legend, Star, Position A - came back from PCGS MS-63
Spain 5 Pesetas 1949 (E51) KM #778 Commemorative, "E" in left star - came back from PCGS MS-63

Plus about 3000 uncirculated nickel-composition international coins...

:)

Back in fall 2009, I bought a lot of coins and banknotes for $93 which included the postage. The lot included these 3 Canadian banknotes - 1900 $4 which I got graded at VG10PPQ, a 1911 $1 now graded F, a 1923 shinplaster, 3 old German marks which I sold for $10, plus various coins made of copper and silver, one of which was a 1767? Mexico 2 reales pillar coin, with a hole that I sold on ebay for $60.

Maybe not my best deal, but how cool is this ? Was going to bid $35.00 on a coin with 10 seconds left to go. Decided I better go with $35.01, got it by 1 cent.

I won 33 dateless Standing Liberty quarters for $117.00 just before silver started climbing in October of 2010. When I got them about half had worn, but full or partial readable dates. I even had a 1919-D that I sold at a coin show for just over $100.00. The others, with dates, made another $150.00 and the dateless coins I sold for scrap when spot was $46.00, so that was another $130.

I don't know why the seller said they were all dateless, but it was a shock when I got them.

My best steel was at a coin show. I bought a 1953NSF near mule for 25 cents.
Before I bought it I picked a few more 5 cent pieces out as well.
It grades VF, I paid full price for the coins.
Sould I have asked for a deal?

I bought 20 USA Indian cents for $12.55 with free shipping. The pictures clearly showed this coin in the lot but nobody bid.

The reverse equally nice but no "S" - harr!
