Hey hey collectors! ( and all you faithful diggers)

I usually post these finds over in the detecting forum but I'm branching out and trying new things..so here goes.

Back in the spring I had a great day with me going home with a great key date coin..1875 H 5 cents
http://goccf.com/t/444138

So skipping ahead to yesterday..another day out and another field of mysteries..what am going to find?

Well I found a spot in a field where there was money changing hands...not a site of where someone lived but just the edge of a field by the lane in ..a place where folks met before going off to farm etc

A picked up a couple of coins and odds and ends but in the mix was a crusty looking silver 10 cents

Initially I didnt think much of it and waited to get home before seeing what it was. A little rinse of water and could have been knocked over with a feather !

Another big key date coin! 1875H 10 cents this time!

The great thing about detecting is you just never know what you're going home with at the end of the day..theres many things you hope for but wishes rarely come true.

I'll take my winnings and get ready for next time I sense a rumble of thunder and hope that the lightning hits under my coil again !

Wow! I miss my metal detecting days! Do you think that it will clean up some? Nice to fing a coin in the 4 digits.

@ okiecoiner

It's a far way from having a pleasing eye appeal I have to admit.
Anything I do will alter the current surface so I'm really on the fence about that.
Theres are numerous ways I cannot mention that could bring back some of the former glory to this piece but I sure don't want to do anything to hurt its value.

As a rule I don't do much to coins that actually have value..the rest( most common dates) have little value and those I don't mind polishing up.

This one is another I'll wait on to see if an acceptable method of restoring it comes my way.

Good find and definitely the 'crustiest' coin I have ever seen.

After looking at this coin for a while I made a call..I'm going to clean it.
In one hand I have a corroded coin and the other hand is a cleaned coin.
Either way it's a details coin but when collectors decide on a lower grade key date for their collection I believe eye appeal is a bigger factor in low grades.

Dont hate me.
Original left..new on right.

Wow! Someone is going to want that after much of the dirt/grime is gone. It still would be a "detail's" coin, but the actual grade is VF+ or higher
