Hello all, do you think it is it worth going through the return process (item not as described) with ebay for the following transaction? I recently bid on and won 2 quarters (2000 S Virginia and 2000 S Maryland) that were listed as 90% silver proofs. I received the coins and weighed them using a certified scale. both coins weighed in at 5.6 Grams indicating that they were clad and not the silver proofs. Both coins plus shipping cost me about $9.00. So what do you think?

On the one hand, you overpaid for non-silver. On the other hand it's <$10, so the question is: is it worth the hassle to get the difference in value back? Usually if it involves mailing something, I consider the hassle factor raised. But if it's easy for you to shoot it back out to them, could be worth it.

Thanks for the response LordW. I am gonna send the seller a note first to let him know and see what his response is. I'm trying to put together a nice set of Washington's so I'll probably just keep them and chalk it up as a hazard of buying off ebay.

andygrill , you bid on a lot that the seller listed as silver, you claim you received clad. It doesn't matter what you paid for them , you deserve to get what was listed. either report it or contact seller about it. If he offers returns , go ahead and send it back for full refund or the silver quarters as claimed.

Very true T-Bop and thanks for the response. They were actually separate auctions by the same seller. He had numerous others listed also that I placed bids on but did not win (Thank God). I will give the seller a chance to respond before I take the next step.

Let us know how the seller responds. Might be a simple mistake.

Cop it sweet.
Not worth any extra hassle, due to ovearall value.

One of the problems with dealing indirect, and not face to face.

Very true sel_691, sent the seller a message through ebay two days ago. No response as of yet. I will give him a couple more days before I claim "item not as described" through ebay. Thanks for the responses so far.

Well after getting no response from the seller, I filed through ebay. The seller then issued me a full refund. The message I received from ebay advised that I did not need to return the items. Not sure why that is. I really wish the seller would have responded to my messages as I would have gladly payed him something for the proof coins.
