Hi

I have this $2.5 Indian Head Gold coin. It is 1925. I uploaded a couple pictures to see if anyone has any idea what the value might. The pictures are not great quality because my camera is not too good. I am going to sell it soon and I want to get an estimate on its price. thanks to anyone that can help me out.

Based on the pics, I would not pay over melt, which is about $150 or so.

It's impossible without better pictures. All we can say is bullion value.

Welcome :)

I was going to suggest you post better pics. The folks here would be able to let you know of an approximate grade and you would be able to see a ballpark figure on ebay. I see people asking for $200 or more for raw ones there. Graded I see asks of up to $1500. If the coin is something that the people here think is a higher grade then you might get it graded and slabbed. Better to be educated about it, and this is a great place to get schooled :-)

For a quick sale don't expect much more than $160.00.

I have been a lurker for awhile now, and joined just to comment on this post. I am a buyer/seller/collector of mainly the $2 1/2 Indians. Yours is easily AU, possible MS. I would pay around $250 for it, and hope to sell it for more. People saying $150 -$170 are talking crazy.

I'm a relative newbie here as well, and find CCF a great place for discussion.

As we've also been discussing on GR58's post about these, I wonder what folks' experience with Counterfeit Detection is.

A quick internet search reveals these quarter eagles are often fakes, for instance:

Assuming it's a mid-grade AU, I'm thinking you could sell at your LCS for $200-225.

What are the forum rules for making offers? I have tried contacting a few people, and I can't seem to do it yet. Can you make offers on these posts?

There is a buy sell and trade section.
There are post count restrictions.

I think it is 250 posts or sell
Might be 50 posts to trade and buy.

How many posts to send an email to a member? Is there a way to send a direct message?

Your coin could be Mint State but without knowing for sure and assuming it is AU+ I would guess the value to be around $200 wholesale and $250 retail. Consider taking it to a coin shop and asking if it should be TPG because the value doubles if it's MS63.
