Well, my latest proof officially arrived in the mail today. It's the 1864 Three-cent Silver Piece graded PF66 by NGC. Very darkly toned, but really nice mirrors when turned under the light. Unfortunately, I've found it absolutely impossible to photograph clearly since the camera keeps blocking the light and I can never seem to capture what I see with my eyes.
And so, I tried shooting a quick video of it with my phone. Still not great, but certainly much better than a still photo:
Glad you like it, jbuck! I'm still waiting for the proof Buffalo nickel and the proof Liberty Seated dollar to arrive over the next few days, and I'll be sure to keep posting picks as they come in. Just try not to ruin your keyboard with all the drool...
Quote: There is a coin show this weekend. Maybe I will see some there and dream a little.
Yeah, I'm supposed to be attending my one big show in April, where I was hoping to find some of these proof coins instead of buying them all on ebay the way that I did. The thing is, with all the recent purchases I've made, I've basically blown my entire coin budget for the year already and my wife is starting to give me a hard time about going to the show. I'll have to promise her I won't bring much cash and will be content with just drooling, but it's gonna be hard...
I do hope to fill some holes. I am not sure if it will be one of the three in the 7070, but I do have some (relatively) cheaper holes to fill in my Indian Head cent and Buffalo nickel sets.
Well, right now I'm left with two coins on my wish list. The first is a proof 20-cent piece as I mentioned earlier. The second is an upgrade to the Coronet Half Cent in my 7070 album. I don't expect to find the former at an affordable price, but I have high hopes of finding the latter at the coin show.
All right, the last two proof coins I bought over the last few weeks have just arrived and I have them in hand. As always, photographing them has proved to be a real bear, but here's the best I've been able to come up with so far (I'll try to do more videos later):
