Tedster, I think you just took stamps post out of context. I read that as him saying "good for you" because he knows you like them (otherwise why would you post them) then he was just letting you know they were basement slabbers because he didn't know if you knew that or not. I guess some could read into it the way you did but I think that would be a minority interpretation.

I think everyone understands now that Stamp wasn't trying to be rude and only wanted to help Tedster understand what he bought. For .25 cents I may have picked them up too. But lets move on and start posting some other bargain bin finds on this thread. I haven't found anything good lately....what is everyone else finding?

Quote: Stamp the way you worded your reply good for you. you know these are all basement slabbers right? makes me think hes telling me good for you you just bought crap coins, how else was I to take it? if you say that was not what you meant we will move on. I will keep reading posts and commenting on a few but posting has a sour taste in my mouth. That was not my intent. Sorry to have given you a sour taste. When I joined this forum, it was to post some coins my dad had given me. I had been a longtime stamp collector. Now that I have switched to coins. I kept the same user name, but have been a hearty coin collector. I have learned a lot from the people on this forum, and continue to learn every day. I don't buy a morgan with posting to this forum first. (I know nothing about Morgans) but I have learned a lot. Keep posting your finds and pickups. It helps all of us learn.

very cool score tedster love those bargain bins just scored some myself on Saturday from the flea market. On the 1960-D large did you check for rpm on the D on those 1960-d you can sometimes find some cool RPM or Repunched Mintmarks for a double score.

Tedster, I think many of us would've bought those for a quarter a piece... Although I might have tried to talk the dealer down to 24 cents a piece.

I LOOK for third party slabs. BUY THE COIN, NOT THE SLAB!! THAT is the rule.
BONUS of bringing a future numismatist into the realm of coin collecting.

Glad everyone is playing nice in the sandbox - misunderstandings happen, and, like people say, this is one of the more friendly coin forums.
To stay on topic I picked up a 5 Franc Swiss copper-nickel piece from a dealer's 5-for-a-buck box at the January FUN show. Swiss money is still good as they don't use Euros. At today's exchange rate that's a $5.10 pickup for 20c. Now all I have to do is go to Switzerland to spend it....

Tedster, wanted to say welcome to the forum. I think it is awesome that you are getting your grandchildren involved in coin collecting. If my grandfather would have given me a coin like that when I was young, I definitely would have thought the world of it. I am sorry that you had a bad experience but truly hope that you stay with us and enjoy some of the topics here. Thank you for sharing.

Well after reading all the comments carefully , and as a new member I can tell Ted that this community is really like a "family " , sometimes we have some disagreements and hurt ( not on purpose )others but it's a great place to learn and sometimes I got a little sad when I think I found something "special " and then someone say ...no don't waste time it's a common coin lol I respect people's opinion that has more knowledge than me ,this forum has people that really understand about coins and they do a wonderful job here answering all the questions and helping all levels of collectors .... You're a great grampa , teaching values for your kids , was a great gift ,hope she will be a collector like us someday!
