That second one is a prime candidate for Verdi-Care if acetone doesn't do the trick.
Nice pickups!

I managed some new pics this morning and even got away with some close ups (holding a 30x loupe in the line of an iphone is hard...) so you can see the date and mint mark better. I even taught myself how to overlay the Heritage die pics - looks like a lock for Die 3! Looks like verdigris yes? Obviously, my shots are not straight on and shot through a loupe and iPhone but I kept the proportions true to the Heritage pic and then tried my best to make it the right size with a 35 percent opacity. It makes sense that both of these would be from the same die as well regarding the provenance of the coins. Okay, so now, what next? Soak them in acetone? They, like all the others, have that old tacky greasy feeling to them. Should I even get near them with a Q-Tip or should I send them both to ANACS (think that's where I'm going since I can walk them in) and have them conserved and photographed? Can verdigris earn the dreaded 'details' grade? What about the hit on the 'D' on the first one? Obviously, these are the crown jewels but there are many many other notable mentions. I'm going to start picking through them and share the results soon! Pics for grading are going into the grading sub forum now as well!

If he's willing I'd send badthad a message for help with that 14-d. You could buy verdicare from him and maybe he could walk you throw using it. I'd practice on some low value cents first though. Btw big congrats on the pickup!

I FINALLY got through sorting all the other cents from the 9 lots I purchased. Everyone has had a little dunk in the acetone (except the 2 14s) to get the shmootz off as well. I thought I'd post the tally! So from the top left we have... - 1 1909 v.d.b - 11 1909 - 33 1910 - 10 1911 - 16 1911-D - 2 1911-S - 2 1912 - 20 1912-D - 10 1913 - 20 1913-D - 2 1913-S - 5 1914 - 2 1914-D - 1 1915 - 15 1915-D - 5 1916 - 13 1916-D - 4 1916-S - 14 1917 - 10 1917 - 2 1917-S Then from the mid right we have... - 4 1918 - 9 1918-D - 18 1919 - 10 1919-D - 7 1919-S - 2 1920 - 4 1920-D - 1 1923 - 1 1926-D - 1 1928 The pile is what's left but they are all culls at best and I will be using them to test out the Verdi-care and generally ruining them further to learn about cleaning and how to see the difference. But what an interesting mix! I'm shocked that the Denver mints outweigh the philly's and San Frans by a decent margin. As for the 14-Ds, I have registered a membership with ANA and plan on sending them into NCS under BadThad's recommendation for conservation and then onto NGC for grading. Will post results!

Thought I'd update incase anyone was interested. I just got my results back form NGC on the 2 1914d cents... they both went through NCS first which is why it took such a long time. SO, it looks like I will be getting back an AU Details - Reverse Scratched and a clean AU55! Will post pics in a few days when I get them back!

I'm really curious as to the reverse scratch. They've been out of hand for over a month now and I can't remember seeing one. Anyone see what they may be talking about with the pics above? I'm really excited that the second didn't get a details environmental damage so that must mean they got the Verdigris taken care of with no damage to the surface! I hope they both look good...
ChildOfTheWheat - I got 9 total lots for $450 plus change and shipping. $169 for my NGC fees (NCS included).

I see a very small scratch next to the right wheat stalk in your pics. Too bad you didn't notice it, you might have been able to let the coin tone down a couple of years and reduce it's visibility enough for a grade. Of course, that depends on how deep it is but it looks minor in the picture. Glad to hear the verdigris was easily removed by NCS! I can't wait to see what it looks like after conservation. CONGRATS!!
