It's the second time for me. I also lost out on the Voyageur coin because I didn't order it online and waited for my Rep to get back to me. I ended up paying $620 on ebay for it and I let him know how peeved I was with him & RCM. I wonder if you can be a MC Member & dump the rep ? I really don't see the advantage of having one. I hope I'm wrong about this coin and he gets back to me with good news. Might take your advice Looney and order one from Gateway. Thanks !

Sorry to hear, David, about your "experience" with Voyageur coin....but glad that you got it finally, although just imo - it is doesn't worth CAD 620. Yes, with all beauty of design and non significance of the issue, only limited mintage make it desirable. You could wait couple of years till you even will not want it. And the "Cherry Blossom" - absolutely "seasonal" coin with random theme for casual customer. It will be available at dealers for issue and ebay less than issue.

@sherwooddavid: I suggest you try the Mint's website again tomorrow (Monday). The Mint has the habit of changing the status of coins which are near sold out to "awaiting stock" before the weekend. I think they do that to avoid overselling the coins through the web store, since offline orders can still come in from other channels but on one is working to monitor those.

Sorry rjlavoie, I listed those stores to show the "sold out" or "out of stock" status, but I should have headed the list with "out of stock."
I just bought a couple more from Gatewest, with the 5% discount. I've noticed that when other stores sell out, the first thing Gatewest does is remove the 5% discount, and then the price goes up. Not saying that this will happen with this coin, but you never know.

I've never heard of this "awaiting stock" explanation before, at the tail end of mintage sales, but it's sounds perfectly logical. If the stores become sold out during the weekend it'll get updated to "sold out" on the website, otherwise the portion will likely become available for online order next week. Makes perfect sense! Thinking back, this likely is what occurred with the Pysanka coin. Thank you for sharing your insight!

My opinion only....too many "loaders" create an initial artificial shortage which then results in future price drops, ultimately resulting in negative impact to NCLT in general. This is because by the time they flip their excess buys to others, the market eventually becomes overly saturated. In an alternate scenario with stringent purchase limits, if mainly buyers who intended to "collect" the coin did so, not as many mintages would sell out, and lesser sold would assist in sustaining future value.
What's kind of interesting, looking into the past, it's sometimes sleeper, low interest coins that later become much sought after. The 2009 goalie mask coins is one good example.

The goalie mask and that generation has these weird mint to demand and some of the mintages figures are hard to believe. This cherry blossom coin looks okay and good for the flippers, it brings some of the buzz back to the hobby, sure better than watching the last couple years of almost everything being discounted 6 months latter.

Coin market is no different than other market.
Only supply & demand.
Flippers can create chaoes only in the beginning phase after new coins release but not all flippers are making money. It is a gamble, either profit or loss.
The final value of a coin, eventually is decided by serious collector's thought on specific coin based on mintage & design.

I agree except it's the quantity sold that eventually influences the future value of NCLT, but not necessarily original mintage. Not all issues sell out. For me personally, I collect what I collect primarily with consideration to purchase price. How many other people want the same item is not really a big factor. But mintage #s that result in sell-outs are more important to RCM marketing than the average collector and no doubt they result in additional sales (pursuing hot sales items is a well known sales motivator)

If you release like an affordable coin like the 2 oz. voyageur with a smallish mintage the mintage affects value, the RCM increased the gold superman, it's going to be a dud, for all kinds of reasons, if this cherry coin was a regular 10,000 mintage I doubt many would care, just like the poor snail.
