John, that might be true but if so in my opinion the type of people who buy for low mintage are likely short term buyers and I wouldn't classify them as "collectors". In order that any one NCLT issue does not totally tank in price, there needs to be a sizeable percentage of buyers who buy solely to add to their collection and have no real intention of selling unless some unforeseen future event occurs. On the opposite extreme, regardless of how low the mintage, if a large percentage of any one issue is bought up by dealers and private individuals to flip without there being enough longterm collectors to absorb the mintage in the secondary market, the resell price is at some point is going to take a nosedive.
As for this cherry blossom, I'd think many of the buyers intend to give it as a gift or are those who the cherry tree holds special significance. Neither type would be overly concerned with mintage.
To add: not knocking the Pysanka, but comparing the two it would seem this coin would be of broader appeal to the public in general, plus it's selling for almost 1/2 the price.

It seems like for a 100.00 or less coin the 6000 or so mintage and a decent design theme is what the collectors want, remember the first maple canopy looks great then they destroyed it with a goofy second coin, good luck to both flippers and collectors.

Practically all coins in the last few years that have appreciated in value or maintained its value had low mintage.
-the Lady Bug (5000) -2013 Gold Superman (2000) -2 oz Voyageur (2200) -Moonlight Fireflies (4000) -Moonlight Northlights (4000) -Pysanka (4000)
The Mint killed the Glass Bug series by going to 10,000 and then $12,500. Even if the Mint maintained the 10,000 mintages the glass bug coins would have held up much better.
Same with the 2015 Gold Superman coin. If they had kept it at 2000 mintage the coins would have sold out long time ago.
The Mint has listened to its customers to some extent as they have lowered the mintage for some of the coins. ie. the current birthstone coins at 3000 per coin.

But you know why "the Mint killed the series"?
Cause looks like, majority of the customers will buy the coin only cause the mintage is low, and doesn't meter the design or the event that coin commemorates.
Does the Ladybug really better than the Bumblebee or Butterfly? GiTD painted over silver the "Moonlight" coins - who will think to buy this, if not low mintage?

MoneyPenney perhaps it's an age thing but several of the coins you've listed have barely fallen off the New Release chart. Not nearly enough time has passed to know whether or not in the future they will remain in higher demand.
I don't see mintages to be the biggest problem -- NCLT has become a frenzy of far too many different issues released every month. Themes are duplicated far too soon. Potential buyers simply get pounded upon by all the choices that quickly accumulate into a sizeable expenditure and sooner than later quietly exit because of the sheer overload.

@ wildflower, I took age to mean age of collector instead of issue. I think buyers of nclt coins are of a younger crowd, where design and mintage are both important factors. This is a nice coin, unfortunately I didn't think there would be a rush with its medium mintage. I felt I had some time to decide. The monthly buzz is good for the hobby.
The nclt coin collector is probably motivated differently from the traditional coin collector. Plus the turnover rate is most likely high, since nclt has only been around since 1971. I have been busy adding to my silver dollar collection, so didn't pay much attention to this release.

Problem is buying coins every release just because "you like it" is that eventually you will have a bunch of coins you never look at stashed away, most losing value. Can you blame some of us that want coins that actually increase in value? Less is more sort of thing, lower mintages and price make RCM much more appealing to me then the normal 7500 to 10000 we have seen in the last few years. I dont know if 6500 mintage for a $69 3/4 silver coin is better but its a start in the right direction, I mean 3/4 or an 1 oz really doesn't make that much of a difference to most buyers, look at the superman gold coins, not even .9999 gold just 14k and people bought them up, yes some complain about it but really its not bullion, if some get upset about that then they should stick with bullion. I buy both by the way... just because... I like...silver and gold ... and low mintage coins...

So when the Cherry Blossom was initially released for $64.95 at a perceived mintage of 10,000, I take it that some of you weren't much interested in the design. But when the mintage was clarified to be 6,500 and as it approached sell out, the design obviously became much more interesting?
