I guess the coin became a chance to get flipped along with a decent design and a lower price, it's a prime example to make a few bucks, not much risk for chance to make a few bucks, cool.

So when the Cherry Blossom was initially released for $64.95 at a perceived mintage of 10,000, I take it that some of you weren't much interested in the design. But when the mintage was clarified to be 6,500 and as it approached sell out, the design obviously became much more interesting?

Not me. I said days ago that it was the only coin I liked in that release (could have been in another forum), but I didn't buy any mainly because I am trying to unload a few coins that are just taking up space that I never look at,if I was in the buying mood I would have grabbed a few long before they became "hot" I just have tooo many coins atm.

I should add that I always thought it was 6500 mintage, not 10000, only mintage number I have seen was 6500.

Northerncoins, makes sense to me, good for you! It's always wise to take a step back and re-examine one's priorities from time to time. To your one point:

I also can see how this happens. What I notice that's changed regarding NCLT over time is more single coins and far fewer series or in relatively short durations of time are being released. That and the sheer multitude of many new releases (200 or so per year?), many collectors likely reach a point whete they notice they've accumulated somewhat of a disconnected mishmash.

@ PocketChange, yes indeed I was referring to age in terms of age differences of collectors, impacting their collecting style. Using myself as an "older" example, I'm not as likely to decide to sell a NCLT that I only bought a few months ago, compared to a much younger person who might be prone to considering just one year as a "long time" and perhaps after only a few months, views something they own as getting old.. (Yes indeed, I have a 20 year old grandson who has gone though at least 6 cellphones to my trusty "old" one....). The impact of rampant consumerism.....

Not bad, but "printed design" of the coin, turned to the nice design of at least $20 bill (less than that no need to bother), so ...design became more attractive.

@Justsilver:
Right, this practice is wrong...if you ordered several coins, lets say 3-5, they should send you some portion of the order and not limited by 1

It astounds me, how many under a year old coins on ebay end up going for up to 50% off, I feel bad for the seller. It boggles the mind, when its from sellers that are not dealers, so you wonder what they were thinking. I have bought many expense items, for my teen son, that he just begged for, only for them to sit gathering dust. It seems if its not computer related, it just sits after a few weeks use. Yet, I question him thoroughly does he really really need it and will use it.

The young generation seem to have super low attention spans. I have started to really think about my coin purchases, so have missed out on 2 coins. However, in years to come I may find a bargain on them. Its not like they are a life or death item.

I agree with Northern, I would rather own coins that maintain value, then decrease! It just adds to the enjoyment, even if not selling in near future.

The thing with buying on secondary market most sellers have to charge $15 for shipping, so this can erode any savings. I have been spoiled with free shipping.

My main reason for buying mint direct is to buy at issue and to score free shipping. I really didn't think this coin would sell out so fast. Most sit for months before a sell out. Its amazing how many sell outs this year already. The price point possibly has a lot to do coupled with the mintage. I didn't think 6500 was that low. For me low mintage starts at 5,000. I would love to see in hand pics, if anyone has bought one.

Thanks to the some people here and on the other forum:
they alarmed about Cherry Blossom coins.

Some ebay sellers have it close to CAD 100 and looks like need to grab these coins - remember what heppened with Pysanka coin with it's totally gimmick design for people from Ukrainian community?

Now we have the coin for Japanese or other Asian community, and seems to be they crazy about this design.
Will they agree to pay CAD 100 - 200 for this coin? Might be - yes.
Otherwise, where all 6.500 went?
Could be it commissioned like resent Animal series coins?

Bought my long time ago, should be getting it this week.
Only coin I like and only coin I ordered this month. No intention of flipping it.

Not interested in making $10 a coin after all the fees.

Wow I just looked at j & m coins, they have it at $99 and 1 per person. I guess another popular coin, if dealer are increasing prices. Nice buzz this year.

I tried to get a few from them today. They canceled my order saying I could only have one at issue price and that they were raising the price to 100$. I'm not sure that this is a good practice...

ugh.. I've been on training this week but when I called the ottawa mint boutique yesterday, they had 15 of these coins left. I planned on picking one or two up today. they don't open till 9 but by the time I get there which is slightly after9, a dude beat me to it. He picked up all 15 coins. :(

I just left the main post office in Halifax and they had the cherry blossom coin on display. I'm not a flipper and already have one so left if for some lucky person.
Not sure how many more they have.
