Recently I completed my set of all 5 of the copper coins minted during the reign of Constantine VII.. I thought it was pretty cool how all 5 were representative of different political situations during Constantine VII's life.

Constantine-VII's-Coppers

1 Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus with Zoe. Struck 914-919. SB 1758.
Constantine VII and his Mom

2: Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus Struck 919-920?/ 919 SB 1759 --
This is the only one that was slightly hard to find (looked for about 5 months until I found one..

these were struck after Romanus I assumed control of the Byzantine Empire and banished Constantine's mother Zoe, but Romanus let Constantine VII remain "Emperor" and was still on the follis for a little bit..

3 Romanus I Struck 920-944 SB 1760
began to be struck when Romanus made Constantine appoint him the Co-emperor and Romanus's older age gave him seniority over Constantine VII and was able to start to appear on the follis.

4 Constantine VII Struck 945-50 SB 1761
in 944 Romanus's sons overthrew him (mad that he was going to let Constantine VII succeed him) and sent him to a monastery, but this didn't go over very well with the people of Constantinople, so they revolted against the sons of Romanus and they too were exiled to monasteries... Leaving Constantine VII as the sole emperor at the age of 40 after a lifetime of being a puppet emperor..

5 Constantine VII and Romanus II Struck 953-959 SB 1762
Then in 953 Constantine added his son/Co-Emperor Romanus II to the coins..

Nice set, including what appear to be some interesting overstrikes. The portraits on 3 and 4 are excellent for Byzantine bronzes.

That is an impressive set. How difficult was it to complete? Congrats.

all of them except my #2 are very common coins you can always find on ebay auctions for around $10-25 for coins with a little bit more wear than these..

#2 currently has none up for sale anywhere and I was only able to find mine after looking for 5 months. but even after that, it wasn't expensive..

my #3 is overstruck on a follis of Leo VI, and 4 + 5 are overstruck on my #3
