Just my opinion, the waterdrop coin looks goofy.

As expected...a debate about this coin.

Love it or hate it. Just like with Pysanka coin. lol

Those who bought several, and made money, love it. Those who bought none hate it.

Something for everyone.

As they say, buy what you like, and you'll love your collection. Even if I had the option to buy it, knowing it will likely do well on the secondary market, I'm going to pass. It either fits, or it doesn't. Selling for higher than issue only counts if/when you sell. I'm sure most nclt collectors here have many coins that are their favourite, that will have a lower profit margin than this one might turn out to have.

Absolutely never a factor for me. I don't like or dislike a coin based on whether I can make a short-term profit from it. I collect coins, I don't speculate in coins.

My decision to buy a particular coin is based solely on whether it fits within my collecting interests.

That's why I bought the Pysanka coin. I like it.

I just happened to buy a few extra so that I could buy some other coins that I like, for free.

Would you like it less, if you weren't bought extra?

I do not like Pysanka, it is not real coin, but coin-like collectors item (imo).

The "Water Drop" - if this "hemisphere" is something glued-on to the coin - I hate it, otherwise like, but not enough in order to spend CAD 100 on it.

I like it enough that I would pay $200 for it if I were not able to buy one at issue price.

The Special Edition Silver Dollar Proof set caught my eye, but then I read Commens' post and that made me think twice. Where can I find more info on this set? I could not find anything on the RCM web site.

It's a little odd that there is no image of the Queen's 90th silver coin, yet the gold is displayed on the RCM website.

The photo of the Special Edition proof dollar looks more attractive on CdnCoins website (VIP members only) and probably will be released for sale to the public on April 1st.

Something I noticed, in 2014 the mintage of the silver dollar proof sets was 30,000, in 2015 reduced to 20,000 and CdnCoins indicates the mintage of this 2016 set is 12,500. In addition to discontinuing the BU silver dollar, that's quite a drop....not saying it will cause a quick sellout, possibly reduced mintage is reflective of a declining trend in silver dollar collecting.

On the topic of sets, I have to admit that I find it really irritating when RCM sells Special Edition proof dollars only in sets that I otherwise wouldn't be interested in buying. Seems to me it's a means to justify a higher selling price...

@canada_coins, here are the details that you might want to read regarding the Special Proof Dollar set:

LOWERED MINTAGE! Only 12,500 sets available this year! Order today! This coin takes you back 150 years to Heart's Content, Newfoundland, when the transatlantic telegraph cable was laid. Imagine the excitement as people gathered on shore to admire the gargantuan ship that completed the epic task—recreated here in stunning detail on a coloured silver dollar that's not available with any other set. A must-have collectible!

The Special Proof Dollar Coin Design:
This special proof dollar reverse design by Canadian marine artist Yves Berube features a three-quarter port-side view of S.S. Great Eastern anchored offshore in the natural harbour of Heart's Content, N.L. Selective colour over engraving recreates the appearance of this great iron steamer, whose impressive size easily dwarfs the local gaff-rigged fishing boat (known as a Jack Boat) that sits off her port bow. Her four funnels and six masts rise up to fill the upper portion of the reverse, while the rolling hills that surround Trinity Bay can be seen in the background. On the beach, local residents gather to admire and study this historic ship, while two of her officers proudly stand on the rocks that line the shore.

Special features:
LOWERED MINTAGE FROM PREVIOUS YEAR! Only 12,500 sets available this year, a lower mintage than previous!
The Royal Canadian Mint's renowned artistry and craftsmanship bring to life this stunning design that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the transatlantic cable through the use of symbolic imagery.
ENHANCED WITH COLOUR! The commemorative proof dollar is struck in 99.99% pure silver, enhanced with colour and is only available in this set.

Packaging:
Your proof dollar set comes in an elegant genuine leather book-style packaging that complements your beautiful coins.

BTW: The colored SD looks similar but is not the same coin as the normal SD or the SD in the Pure Silver Proof Set - only the boat is in similar perspective all the rest is different!
